Show Preview: Wild Nothing, Abe Vigoda @ Red 7 (2/4)

Date Friday, Feb 4th
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $8 from Frontgate

February has already kicked off with some great shows, but I reckon to bet that there won’t be a better ticket in town than this, whether it’s snowing or not!  First, Wild Nothing won over fans last year with Gemini, and continued kicking ass with the Golden Haze EP.  Their combination of bedroom pop and electronica just fits perfectly into our lives.  Then, you have the incredible Abe Vigoda, and since this is their first tour since the release of Crush, you know they’re going to bring their A game.  On that alone, two amazing bands for $8, you should go.  But, because life sometimes can get better, you have two of the hottest bands in town opening with Bali Yaaah and Superlitebike.  Haven’t gotten to see Bali Yaaah just yet, but Superlitebike is ridiculous live.  Do it folks, lets keep each other warm.

Show Review: No Age @ Red 7 (1/11)

At first, I was looking forward to an outdoor show at Mohawk in January.  Then the forecast kept getting colder and colder.  I wasn’t worried as being near the stage for pics meant carry over heat from the pit.  Instead, promoters moved the show to Red7.  The openers had issues, the speakers were giving up, but No Age killed.  Follow the jump for more.

Show Preview: Turbo Fruits @ Red 7 (12/17)

Date 12/17/10

Tickets $8 @ Frontgate

As promised earlier this week, we wanted to remind you about the sweet show at Red 7 on Friday night with buzz bands Turbo Fruits and Pujol.  Also on the stage are Rayon Beach and Dikes of Holland.  It’s a cheap ticket price so I’d recommend checking these guys out before they start booking at bigger venues.  Below you can also find the new song from Turbo Fruits we posted earlier this week.

Show Preview: The Thermals @ Red 7 (10/23)

Location Red 7
Doors 9pm
Tickets $12 @ Frontgate

Everyone’s favorite indie punk kids The Thermals are making a stop in Austin at Red 7 on Saturday night.  Cymbals Eat Guitars will also be on hand to play some jams which makes the show that much more enticing to a blogging nerd like me.  The Coathangers will be providing your opening support for the night.

Show Preview: Jesse Malin @ Red 7 (10/4)

Date 10/4/10
Location Red 7
Doors 9pm
Tickets $10 @ Frontgate

It’s honestly been awhile since I heard Jesse Malin’s name.  I used to be a big fan of the guy back in the day, I guess I just haven’t heard much about his career in the music world recently.  Based on his old rep alone, a relatively cheap show by him and his new band St. Marks Social at Red 7 is a nice option for live music on a Monday night.  Joining the singer songwriter on stage is Moneybrother and Saw Wheel.  Below you can also find the most recent single from Jesse and his band “Burning the Bowery” which appears on his most recent album from April Love it To Life.

Chaos n’ Tejas Preview: Ty Segall

As the Chaos in Tejas festival comes into Austin this Wednesday, its high time we take a closer look at our heavier, faster brethren. Our first suggestion for your ears is the garage rock wunderkind Ty Segall.  He’s having a busy year already, producing the 7″ for Brilliant Colors, then he’s got his own album Melted which hits stores next week.  Such a busy schedule might lead one to think of the recently vacated spot left by Jay Reatard (RIP) wherein he dominated (like it or not) the garage rock scene across the web.  Ty’s next in line, and in fact, has already sort of taken over.  You can check Ty out this Thursday, May 27th at Red 7.  Here’s a tune from his new album as well, in case you need more convincing.

Japanther @ Red 7 (5/13)

Date 5/13/10
Location Red 7
Doors 9pm
Tickets Tickers @ Door

I will personally guarantee that the Japanther show at Red 7 on Thursday night will bring the damn house down.  Mark it down.  The lo-fi garage rockers will bring Muhammadali, Legsweeper, and Come and Take It while DJ Timmy Hefner spins things inside.  Not too sure on price so somebody let us know if you’ve got the deets.  Rock.
