Say Hello To Blue J

It’s always nice to hear from old friends in bands when you weren’t sure if they’d parted ways with the music game. Today my rekindled musical relationships comes by way of old pal Justice McLellan who formerly fronted the Canada based outfit Ruby Coast. If you don’t remember those guys, they played an ATH SXSW showcase for us many many moons ago. Well now Justice is working on a new project called Blue J and he just sent us over this nice new track “Early Show”. It’s definitely a hushed beauty sort of song built beautifully over a multitude of layers and intricate sounds. We’ll be sure to share more as we know more.

Free Album from Ruby Coast

You know we’ve been long into Canada’s Ruby Coast, so much so that we had them play our SXSW Party back in 09′. Finally, the band have their debut ready for your ears, and today only they’re offering it up for your ears for absolutely free!  The album is called Whatever This Is, and we’ve been jamming to it all day long over here.  You definitely have to give this band a try, and like I said, if you go HERE, their debut record is totally FREE!. So go, preview it before you get it even, just try it on for size. There’s a small sample below.

New Music From Ruby Coast

Amidst the craziness that is summer, we somehow missed out some new tunes from our old Canadian friends Ruby Coast.  Apparently the guys have two new songs available for download, one of which “Creep Me Out” can be found for your enjoyment below.  The other song “Whatever It Is” has a sweet video companion that can be streamed/seen on the band’s website.  Both songs will appear on an upcoming LP from Ruby Coast due out next year.

ATH Showcase Recap

athshowcase_coverSo in case you didn’t hear, Austin Town Hall put on a little SXSW showcase last weekend.  We had 5 bands handpicked based on how much we like them and how much we wanted to hear them play live together.  All in all, the show turned off without a hitch and even ended on time for everyone to get their shit together and still get a beer afterward or make it to Auditorium Shores.  Follow the jump for a brief review of our bands and see some fancy photos.

SXSW Top 10 Live Acts

sxsw_liveacts_coverIs anyone else just a little bit sad today as we wrap up another amazing SXSW Festival in Austin? I know we here at ATH are as depressed as anyone to head back into the real world today. Gone are the carefree days of roaming around downtown in search of the best music and the best parties with free red bull and vodka. While still nursing our hangovers and mending our bruises, we would like to share with you the best live acts that we caught this past week. You may have heard of most of these bands or they may be completely new to you, but regardless, these bands brought the noise at SXSW. We tried to be fair and pick the acts that either lived up to a certain hype or just rocked our faces to the floor.  Follow the jump for our top 10 live acts of SXSW.

ATH Showcase @ Victory Grill (3/21)

athshowcase2009We here at ATH started getting a little jealous of everyone having fun with this day party thing during SXSW week, so we thought it was time to join in the fun.  The shindig we’ve put together will be going down at Victory Grill on March 21st from 3pm-8pm and is completely free.  Our lineup should spark your interest and make you want to leave all those other free day parties behind.  You won’t even have to leave the kids at home since all ages are welcome at the show!  I’d recommend getting to the venue early as space is limited.  If you’ve got a little free time, be sure to Like our event on Do512 and check out their sweet SXSW coverage while you’re there.  We almost forgot a map to the venue for you out of towners!  Follow the jump for more details and links to all participating bands.
