Drunken Barn Dance Write Hooks

dbdWhy we’re all waiting for that next Thermals record to come out, there’s something to hold you over in the meantime: Drunken Barn Dance. It’s the new project of Scott Sellwood (formerly of Saturday Looks Good to Me), and I think that it’s a step immediately to the left of my beloved Thermals. Take the vocal tones, the internal hooks, but move left (or right) towards a more folk-laden touch, and you’ll have this wonderful new track. He’ll be releasing the Big Bend EP on February 12th via Quite Scientific, and I’m definitely getting my hands on this one.

Pure Pop from Fred Thomas

fredFred Thomas has made his mark throughout the last decade with Saturday Looks Good to Me (I still adore Every Night).  But, as he steps into his own, I think he’s making a statement as one of the great pop songwriters we’ve got around.  There’s no frills and hiding behind studio tricks, instead just rocking this song with his voice and his guitar.  I’m always amazed how much people can accomplish with so little, and there’s a lot here for great pop fans.  Look for his solo effort, All Are Saved, which is being released by longtime label Polyvinyl on April 7th.

More New Music From Saturday Looks Good To Me

Saturday+Looks+Good+to+MeI mentioned awhile back how excited I was to hear that Saturday Looks Good to Me are back on the indie music scene with some tasty pop music.  Already we’ve heard new song “Invisible Friend” and today we get this fun pop song “Break In”.  I love that this band continues to make beautiful and catchy pop songs that anyone would be hard pressed to resist.  I dare you to resist!

As previously mentioned, new album One Kiss Ends it All will be available on May 21st via Polyvinyl Records.

Feel Good Pop From Saturday Looks Good To Me

Saturday+Looks+Good+to+Me

I have long followed the career of Polyvinyl act Saturday Looks Good To Me and their beautiful take on 60’s style keyboard driven pop music.  Their music has always been light, fun, and certainly something that could immediately put you into a better mood.  Today I have one of those songs entitled “Invisible Friend” and it definitely fits into that SLGTM mold of breezy pop music.  In even better news, the band are planning to release new album One Kiss Ends All on May 10th via the aforementioned Polyvinyl Record label.  A pre-order of that album is up now.

New Bright Pop From Saturday Looks Good To Me

It seems crazy to me that we’ve never posted about indie pop band Saturday Looks good to me.  I remember really getting into them in my college days when they were an up and coming band on the Polyvinyl label.  Now the band can be considered veterans in the game and I was really pumped when they sent over this new song “Sunglasses” streaming on soundcloud.  It’s definitely an upbeat song that might be a perfect segway into your weekend party times.  This tune will be available for physical purchase via 7″ single on November 6th on the Polyvinyl Label.

New Tunes from In Tall Buildings

Erik Hall has had his share in the music biz, playing with NOMO and Saturday Looks Good to Me.  Now, he’s set to release his own album under the name In Tall Buildings, which comes out this week on Whistler Records.  This track sort of has the old feel of Rogue Wave, but you can tell that Hall spends his time dabbling with every instrument possible.  It’s full of layers, but in the sort of way that doesn’t weigh you down. Listen up.
