Mohawk 5th Anniversary Begins Tonight

The best little venue in town is celebrating their 5th anniversary starting tonight with some great shows planned all weekend long.  You can check out individual shows, or pony up $42 for a 4 day pass of badass music.  Here’s a quick list of what’s going down, door times, and where you can buy tickets.

Show Preview: Shapes Have Fangs @ Ghost Room (2/10)

With a bit of a slow week in the music scene in Austin, it’s a perfect time to get your butt out there and check out some of that local music you’ve been meaning to see.  Thursday night is a great option for such endeavors with a headlining show at The Ghost Room by Shapes Have Fangs.  Joining the band on stage are fellow up and coming and hot locals Rayon Beach, The Daze, and Eets Feats.  Also in store is a photo booth by Birds Barbershop and a free drink for the first 100 people through the door provided courtesy of Waterloo Ice House.  Fellow sponsors and friends for the event are Republic of Austin, Knuckle Rumbler, and Red River Noise.  I highly doubt you’ve got anything better to do on a Thursday night.  Seriously.

Black Angels @ Mohawk (10/30)

What’s that you say?  You still haven’t seen locals The Black Angels yet?  Where have you been?  Do yourself a favor and head down to Mohawk on Friday night to take in a show from one of the best Austin bands around.  The lineup also includes talented acts Kurt Vile and Shapes Have Fangs.  You won’t want to miss out on this one.

The Ugly Beats @ Mohawk (8/7)

uglybeats_jpg_595x325_crop_upscale_q85Mohawk has a nice lineup of local acts on the bill for Friday night which should be a good option for your weekend starting plans.  The lineup includes locals The Ugly Beats, Shapes Have Fangs and English Teeth.  Doors are set to open at 10pm with entrance fee at $6.  Here’s a little taste of what’s in store with this little jam from The Ugly Beats.

Psych Fest @ Radio Room 3/13-3/15

pf2_bigThe week/weekend before SXSW is usually pretty bland for live music, but a few locals have put together a nice little festival going down this weekend.  Over the weekend, if you’re not resting up for next week, you should make it out to the new Radio Room (map) for the 2nd annual Psych Fest.  The lineup for the weekend events is pretty impressive with big names like Black Angels, Strange Boys, Dead Meadow, Shapes Have Fangs, A Place to Bury Strangers, and tons more.  Tickets for the event are on sale now and are going for $45 for a 3 day pass and $15 for individual day tickets.  Music starts at 9pm on Friday and 1pm on both Saturday and Sunday.  Check out the official website for full schedule and band info or have a look at that trippy flier.
