New music comes hard and heavy during the Spring months, as its the perfect time to set up summer releases and tours. We tried to get to as much as we could, and grabbed 24 new songs for you to settle into on this Monday. New stuff from Austin’s Variety assures the band is still on the rise in my eyes. I’ve been really into the tunes from Bibi Club‘s new LP, and they throw a plot twist with some English sparkle on it; it matches up well with the dark wave from Houses of Heaven. Friends of the site like Gabriel Birnbaum, Kaspar and Snowy Band all had new work to share with the masses., plus be sure you taste the new Babehoven tune hanging out for you at the end. If you follow bands like Pop Filter or the Ocean Party, Snowy Band should be familiar to you (or if you read the production notes on all your favorite Aussie acts). If not, check out this brand new single from Snow Halliwell’s project, coming with the announcement of Age Difference, a new LP. There’s a calmed subtlety here, almost fragile with the recording capture the fingers moving up and down the frets; Snowy’s voice is barely above a whisper, though as it pulls you in, you start to hear a little bit more of the musicality seep through your speakers. Backing vocals from his bandmates lift the emotional element, then piano notes tickle your fancy and string arrangements continue to flesh the song’s entirety. Age Difference will be out on July 19th via Blossom Rot Records.

I know you all came here hoping to hear the new Kanye, but nah, fuck that guy. So here we are, perhaps wanting you to stream a few left of the dial album releases that otherwise might not make it onto your radar. Most of these are just things I’ve been jamming and talking about, but today is release day, so wanted to be sure they’re on your radar!

Cry Baby – Everything I Didn’t Say (Solidarity Club Records)

This South Carolina outfit is here to give you the slow jams, throw it back to that groovy stuff that got replaced by the beeps and the boops of the current climate. But, if you like your R&B styles with a little nostalgia, a little like those late night MTV jams of the 80s, then you need to be all over this as fast as possible!

Snowy Band – Alternate Endings

I’ve always been a huge Snowy fan, but I had no idea what he had up his sleeve for Alternate Endings. This might be one of the sneaky picks for album of the year; its perfect in almost every spot, and my recommendation is that you spend time with “Living with Myself” and try to tell me you don’t love it!

Slow Rosary – Refinery

There’s so much going on in the world, that it has been increasingly difficult to escape from the world…that is unless you put this Slow Rosary record on. This is musical escapism at its finest; it’s hand-crafted folk opus after opus, built to transport you somewhere entirely magical. Just hang out with this record for a few minutes, you can thank me later.

Ray and I go back to work full-time, kids and all, so let’s start off our first real week of work with last week’s sweet sweet jams. It’s just an easy way to ease into your Monday with a look back at what you might have missed had you not been glued to our site! We’re all over the place with new stuff from Suuns and the Shivas, plus some Austin love as always by including the latest from TC Superstar, Nolan Potter, Brother Sports and a tune off the new Alexalone LP…so browse, enjoy, tell your friends. Snowy Band Share Call It A Day

Right now, I couldn’t think of a better way to begin my day than to curl up next to this new track from Snowy Band. There’s just something about Liam’s delivery that’s soothing, whether its the tone or just the natural volume, it feels like wrapping up in a weighted blanket. But, while the song’s mostly working around the light strum crashing into discord and heavier guitar work, the chorus is this sublime little treat you’ll want to put in your pocket and save for a rainy day; you get this moment for its first time right at the 2:30 mark…that’s when I became well and truly smitten. Alternate Endings is out on August 27th via Osborne Again/Spunk Records.

Bops of the Week for July 12- 16

Here we go again my friends, starting off another week, and what better way than to have a nicely curated collection of great tunes from last week for your ears. A few strong singles with album announcements like Hovvdy‘s new tune, as well as a few jams from some of our favorite records that came out last week, like Wojtek the Bear and Always You. Plus, as always, we’re all over the map taste-wise, so you get a little of everything, but starting off with that ridiculously glorious Cindy tune from their forthcoming 1:2 LP. Happy Monday folks!

Snowy Band Share Whatever You Want

As mentioned earlier, we’re hanging in Melbourne today, musically speaking, so it only makes sense that I toss out this new single from Snowy Band. For me, when listening to Liam sing so softly, it actually begs your attention; you have to pull yourself closer to the song, effectively making you an active part of the craft. This tune gets a nice lift after the 2 minute mark, as backing vocals create this melody-filled helium balloon, rising to the top of the mix, all before the song sort of meanders into the creative guitar interlude. This track appears on Alternate Endings, which will be released on August 27th via Spunk.

 

Snowy Band Announce Alternate Endings

I seem to be drawn to a particular brand of pop of late, and it comes as no surprise (to me anyways) that I’d be inclined to share a track from Snowy Band, the project led by Liam Halliwell (Ocean Party/Pop Filter). I love how this tune begins rather sedated, almost muted riffs creeping to match Halliwell’s walking vocals, faintly hanging a melody out there to drift through your speakers. The percussion seems to stay out of the way, almost enticed to pop out, though always staying close to the track’s center. You also get a beautiful eruption of joy when Emma Russack joins in for the gang chorus, giving the song almost a celebratory nature that’s sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. Snowy Band Announce Audio Commentary

Snowy Band is the recording project of Liam Halliwell, who you might recognize as one of the core members of the Ocean Party; he’s also played on a ton of your favorite Melbourne band’s records too…he’s all over the place. Today, news comes across the great pond of a new album titled Audio Commentary, which will be released at the end of March via Osborne Again. Our first listen is this really solemn ballad, gentle in its presentation, with each note carefully presented so Liam can allow his voice to blanket them in a calming warmth. The chorus builds in a special moment, with Halliwell’s voice raised up with support of his backing band, which includes ATH fave Emma Russack. A special moment awaits you if you press play below.
