Up and comers The Couch are a band we feel everyone should really be paying attention to right now in Austin. They’re a great band with loads of talent, not to mention a great new single “Kaiser” that’s creating all kinds of buzz in town. Joining the group are fellow talented locals The Sour Notes and relatively unknown Summer Swells. If anyone has a link for SS, holler.

Dudes, you gotta go to this. I know it’s in the non-traditional part of the music scene, but sometimes that’s where the best stuff goes down. Friday night is a huge bash featuring tons of local acts on three different stages, so you can bounce around and see what you dig. Me, well, I’ll definitely be checking out our friends Young Girls and Shivery Shakes; Sour Notes will also be on my list! Of course, some of these bands I haven’t seen yet, so I’m going to try to get in as many bands as possible. Come out and have a blast with us!

Man it seems like it’s been a hot minute since we posted a new tune from local ATH favorite band The Sour Notes. We were big fans of their recent record Last Looks, as it appeared on our year end Texas albums list, so we try to make a point to post their music when it’s sent our way. This new song “Two Hands Wait” appears on a new split 7″ the band just put out with fellow local band Marmalakes. Enjoy.

New Years Eve is upon us, and I doubt any of you people have really solid plans for what you’re doing to celebrate. Well, let us assist you in that department with news of a party we’re helping sponsor going down at Cheer Up Charlies on the East Side. The show features an awesome “locals only” line-up in the form of Gold Spine, TV Torso, Ringo Deathstarr, Young Girls, Marmalakes, Sleep Good, The Zoltars, The Sour Notes and a Mouthfeel DJ set to end the night. Giveaways will also be handed out out in between each set by Fricano’s Deli, Strut Boutique, Birds Barbershop, Tiffs Treats, and The Highball. Fresh off their stop into town during Fun Fun Fun Fest, Future Islands are back in Austin this Tuesday night at Mohawk. The Baltimore based group will be supported by Ed Schrader’s Music Beat and Austin’s own The Sour Notes. With Thanksgiving going down on Thursday, you won’t have many options for music this week so you better be at this one.

Those still looking for a great show to attend on Friday night, for a good cause I might add, should point their attention to the show going down at Mohawk benefiting the Texas School For the Deaf. The lineup includes a plethora of ATH backed Austin bands in the form of Freshmillions, Dark Water Hymnal, Gold Beach, Great Nostalgic, The Pons, The Sour Notes, One Hundred Flowers, and Anam Milá. We also hear that some great merchandise will be on sale and games will be going down as well. More information on how you can support this great cause can be found over on the TSD Foundation website. Count me in!

Those looking for good times to be had should head on over the The Palm Door on Tuesday night for a show by local kids the Sour Notes brought to you by Austin Chronicle. The show features a ton of free goodies brought to you by Tito’s Vodka, Dos Equis, Neuro, and Opal Devines. With some great music, free food, and a free door fee, I see no reason why you wouldn’t want to make it out to this show/party.

It’s been a great week so far for local shows, and we see no reason not to continue the Austin artist fun at Mohawk on Friday night. Headlining and putting this whole thing together to celebrate their 9th year together are Austin’s very own rockers The Midgetmen. Never the type to half ass anything, the boys have a stellar local show lined up featuring La Snacks, San Saba County, The Blistering Speeds, The Pons, Shells, Through the Trees, and The Sour Notes. Also expect some tasty free beverages provided by Treaty Oak Rum and Graham’s Texas Tea. Be there Ausinites! While we’re at it, here’s the opening number “Beer’s Gone” to the Midgetmen’s new album Loud Enough.

The Sour Notes have slowly become one of the most talked about bands in Austin as they continue to pump out solid tunes and play the local scene. Well now the guys are prepping the release of their upcoming album Last Looks on February 17th with a release show at the Mohawk, which we’ll tell you more about closer to the date. For now we’d like to share this new song with you called “Hot Pink Flares”. The catchy new number recently appeared on a 7″ self-released by the Sour Notes and will also be track #2 on the new album. Also for a limited time, the band is offering up their entire discography for free download on their bandcamp page. Keep up the rock guys.
