Sun June Album Release Tonight at Spiderhouse

If you haven’t been reading the cool sites, then maybe you’ve missed the swirling hype surrounding Austin’s Sun June. Hype or not, we here at ATH can attest to the band’s talents, both live and recorded. Tonight they gather with friends and label mates to celebrate the release of their new album, Years; you can stream that whole LP right HERE. Daphne Tunes will kick things off, followed by the esteemed Julia Lucille. If you’re not fortunate enough to live in Austin, then go head over to our friends at Keeled Scales and grab yourself a copy there before it’s too late! Oh, and here’s the last single from the LP, and one of my fave tracks. Doors at 8!

The 2014 Austin Music Blogger Awards

AMBA 2014 Photo BannerIt was a great event. We were proud to be a part of it.

I have a list of winners and so many photos. Orthy sounded great, buoyed by Ian and Jeramy’s win for best DJs as Learning Secrets. Shivery Shakes ripped after their win for “Sidewalk Talk”. Jess was charming and haunting as ever, congrats. A Giant Dog stole the show with their set, while Mirror Travel may have given some voters buyer’s remorse. Magna Carda is hip-hop in Austin; go see them.

Night DriveRed Bull Sound Select took over the Spider House Ballroom. In exchange for your information on the intarwebs, you could check out three great bands for $3. On the agenda was The Black and White Years, Night Drive and The Octopus Project.

RSVP DOES NOT GUARANTEE ENTRY

The line started at around 6:30pm for 9pm doors and some that got in line closer to show time to see the bands in a 350 person venue were going to be disappointed. My only disappointment was a late-running schedule that forced my early exit before The Octopus Project could take the stage; the following day was a really long one and it took discipline to leave when I did. Nate and I had a sweet bit of fun at a dance party and we both left with the impression that Night Drive is poised for explosion.

Click through for pics of The Black and White Years and Night Drive.

Red Bull Sound Select

Date 1/15/14
Location Spider House Ballroom
Doors 9pm
Tickets RSVP $3/$10 @ door

Our friends at Red Bull are presenting a nice little locals action to show off the talent brewing around here; this is a dance party version.

You get The Octopus Project, Night Drive and The Black & White Years. You can RSVP here. Why RSVP, you ask? Because with RSVP, you get in for $3 instead of $10 and you get to download a song from each of the artists. I mean, that is like actually buying three songs and getting to go to a show for free.

I have a feeling things will get crowded quick so be early and be cool. The Octupus Project doesn’t have any more shows listed after this, Night Drive sounded great at Red7 the other night and The Black & White Years have new hits. In fact, here is a track you should hear from B&WY…

680439_604934862875370_2066561775_oBefore you take off for the holiday, you probably want to get your last bit of rock n’ roll in, and there really isnt’ a hotter ticket in town than the line-up over at Spiderhouse Ballroom on Friday evening.  You’ve got several of our Emerging Artists in Big Bill and Tele Novella rocking out, plus the incredible Love Inks performing their album that we put in our Top Austin Albums list for 2013.  Plus, as if that wasn’t good enough, long-time act, Party Girls (formerly The Carrots) will be throwing things down too.  And, for those of you that like to rock things in a more exciting style, party attire is encouraged.  It’s going to be an all out musical extravaganza, and it’s only $10.
