Fieldings Announce Debut LP

This song stuck with me immediately because of the looped piano bit that begins the track, then Lucinda Hearn entered…taking me over the edge. She has this fragility in the way her notes reach out, as if they could possibly fold beneath at any given time. As the song progress, pace is added with textured beats and guitar pieces. There’s almost an atmospheric nod to it as well, furthering the place for Fieldings in my listening rotation. Look for her new Soft Tissue LP to drop soon.

Tasty Tune from My Sad Captains

My Sad Captains will be releasing their new album Sun Bridge in just a couple of weeks (October 6th), but I hope you’ll take a minute to enjoy this new single before you move on with your day. There’s a really mellow vibe to the tune, with the vocals coming through your speakers like careful whispers in your ear; it reminds me of the Clientele in a lot of ways, though perhaps a bit less ornate. Those of you who haven’t yet listened to the group should take this pleasant number with you today; it’s bound to make the day infinitely better.

Beautiful Music from Lean Year

One of the great things about following labels is that you can identify certain sonic similarities in the work they put out, much like Western Vinyl who’ve worked with artists like Balmorhea (among others). Sure, Lean Year doesn’t have the exact same sound, but if you listen carefully, you’ll be absorbed by the band’s cinematic quality (perhaps owed to Rick Alverson’s participation). Every note seems to have been dropped perfectly in place, every vocal line placed precisely in position. Quiet throughout, you’ll likely find yourself immersed in the expanse the band has created for you. Their self-titled album will drop in your lap (I hope) on October 20th.

Reptaliens Dabble In Indiepop

I’m not sure exactly where Reptaliens are going with their album FM 2030, and perhaps that’s the most exciting thing about the band. Here, on their latest single, the band seems to be heading in the direction of casual indiepop, of which you know I’m a huge fan. The guitars seems slightly muted, yet jangly; the vocals are gentle and perfectly placed in the mix; you can hear little touches of horns and synths to flesh it all out. I mean, if you’re looking for a really chilled out pop song to spend your day with, then you’re going to want to take this one out for a spin. Look for the bands new LP on October 6th via Captured Tracks.

Premiere New Suburban Birds Hit

We first caught onto Suburban Birds back when they dropped their EP, but since then, they’ve been holed up inside the studio working on their debut LP. Today we’ve got this delightful number for you, bringing in elements of psychedelia, sunshine and harmonies to create a track that gives you a groovy dose of escapism. Rather than ride it out to the end, the group pulls back the pace and allows for a bit of deconstruction with their own structures..stripping things down until the audio fizzles out. Lituya Bay is sure to be a journey, so join up with them when the album drops on September 26th.

Great New Deathlist Tune

Deathlist is coming for you, and you won’t be able to turn away. Below you’ll find the title track to the new Weaks EP, which was recorded with help from Hutch Harris. That alone would garner my interest, but then you can throw that out the window as the song’s execution is so good that you’ll play the track over and over. Jenny Logan’s vocals have this breathy quality, almost with a hint of a rasp at the end of each note. Dig deeper and you’ll find that the production and mix allows for everything to sparkle in its own fashion…I love the guitar sound, as well as the faintest hint of piano/keyboard tinkering in the distance. Should be another excellent release; look for it on October 6th.

Check Out Dead Oceans New Signing, Shame

Shame signs to Dead Oceans with a ton of UK hype behind them. It’s definitely going to be interesting hearing out the rest of the band’s tunes come across; this single’s great, but you could see an album of like-minded tracks wearing you out. It works around a bit of call-and-response punk ethos, though you can clearly hear that the band has a pop-centric focus…be it in the chorus or in some of the guitar sounds. It’s a good introduction, but we’ll hold out on full fandom until their debut drops in 2018.

Enjoying This New Covey Track

Covey will be releasing Haggarty on Friday, and before it drops, there’s another reason right here for you to fall in love with the project. Something about the vocals really has me hung up…there’s this feeling of longing, or searching, as the last notes of each syllable fade out…and I’m hooked. Slight backing vocals add emphasis, and the closing push really adds a joyousness to the track. Sometimes you find a track that’s familiar in every way, and you can’t pull away…today is that day and this is that song.

Seductive Pop from Vilde

Remember in that one movie where he played the Beta Band, then everyone went and bought it? Well, I get that sentiment when I watch this video/new tune from Stockholm’s Vilde. There’s this quiet electronic groove that flows beneath the ground, allowing all this room for the angelic voice of Thomas Savage to weave further magic through your speakers. Just as I’m lost in the song, I turn to the video to find a collage of images fading in and out of one another and find myself completely lost in the beautiful madness of my own mind. This is his final piece in the Study Dance collection, and by far the most intoxicating…give it a go.

Frankie Rose Plays Tonight at Barracuda

Those of you that pay any heed to the indie media cred will surely be aware that Frankie Rose released the most excellent Cage Tropical earlier this year via Slumberland; heralded P4K gave it a 7.7! It’s probably her most complete release to date, and she’s bringing it to the live stage tonight at Barracuda. But, even better for you is that opening the night will be our own Tres Oui, who are currently wrapping up a new LP for Shrimper, so you’re bound to hear a whole slew of new gems on stage tonight…plus Steven has some new pedals to show you. In the middle of the set is Suburban Living, so you really can’t go wrong by being in attendance. Doors are at 8!
