Marlody Shares Summer Video

Skep Wax is on a tear as of late, with reissues for Heavenly, and now they’re prepping the debut album for Marlody, coming at you early next year. Today they share the lead single, leading us down a path or ornate keyboard playing and soothing melody work from the vocals. While the tune definitely hangs in this realm of ballad work, there’s something meditative in the way the keyboard patterns seem to overlap, lulling you into some sort of trance that forces your attention on the voice and lyrics. It’s video accompaniment takes on this sort of ghostly atmosphere, as if we’re in some sort of earthly purgatory, stuck between two worlds that seem to trip upon one another. If you’re into it, Marlody will release I’m Not Sure at All on January 13th via Skep Wax.

Striking Track from Odina

Let’s get it out of the way, there’s an immediate comparison to Odina; yes, she does resemble early Joanna Newsom in her vocal delivery. But, for me, that’s where the comparison stops, and a new star shines. There’s this intimacy in her voice, almost as if we’re sitting right in the studio as she records this tune. It doesn’t hurt that the arrangements behind her are stunning, embellishing her notes with billowing horns that rise to meet her voice. This tune will appear on her forthcoming EP, which is scheduled to drop at some point this summer.

Bright and Sunny Single From Beauty Sleep

unnamed (2)As I continue to bring you a few more songs of summer right before the season ends, this new tune “Living Right” by Belfast natives Beauty Sleep should fit that summer playlist. Imagine if you will Beach House had a baby with a crossbreed child of Rainer Maria and Pains of Being Pure at Heart and that’s about what we have here. Hopefully those comparisons will make a bit of sense to you music fans out there. I’m loving it. You’ll be able to download this new single from all major outlets on August 12th. Stay tuned.

Spring King Release Album in the U.S. !

unnamed-49Now, we’ve posted about Spring King in the past, but their debut album just came out earlier this year in Britain, and it’s been blowing up big time. That’s why I’m thrilled to announce thatTell Me If You Like To, has been released for us here stateside. Below is a track from that album, aptly titled “Summer,” and it’s a glimmer of rock and roll fun that Spring King is all about. You get gang vocals and hooky choruses that beg you to sing along. You also get bombastic percussion and bouncy synths. Make sure you jam along with these summer vibes here and then go pick up a copy of their newly released album from Terrible Recordsright over here.

Bleached Kick Out Summer Jam

bleachedYou ready for summer fun? Well, then you better press play immediately!  This new track from Bleached encompasses everything perfect about summer, even going so far as the title, “For the Feel.”  It’s a song that holds a no-bullshit attitude, even keeping clean on the distortion and atmospherics, as other like-minded acts are wont to do.  It’s a pop rock track that chugs along spiritedly, giving you some added energy in your daily listening rotation.  It’s a song that might not make the girls new record, but is slated for a 7″ release via Dead Oceans on July 22nd.  So so good.

Summer Dance Jam From Wild Cub

Wild-Cub1As summer sadly begins to draw to a close, Wild Cub are here with a brand new dancey number that can help us hold on to those last few remaining moments.  The track, entitled “Blacktide”, is chock full of some great dance party inducing beats along with perfect lyrics reminding us of young love.  Seems like a perfect fit for summer love and fun.  This is the first taste of new material from the band since the release of their debut LP Youth last year.  No word just yet on if the band have plans for a new album sometime soon.

More New Music From Wild Smiles

Only about a month ago, I posted a sweet new tune from Chris Peden and his new project known as Wild Smiles.  Last time I really enjoyed the hazy summer feel to the tunes which is still apparent here with a major rock riff mixed in as well.  Right around the :50 mark this song turns in to quite the rocker.  It’s one hell of a jam.  Stay tuned for more from this promising artist.

Introducing: Wild Smiles

Hooray for new finds coming through our contact form!  Today my new band smell comes from my new friend Chris Peden, otherwise known as Wild Smiles.  Chris just sent over a link to his new EP which can be streamed over on his website.  Apparently it was recorded completely at home, yet managed to come out sounding like an above average self-produced EP.  The sound has this hazy feel to it that makes me want to jump in a pool somewhere before summer ends.  Oh it’s over?  Well, this tune “Tangled Hair” will make you think it’s the middle of July and perfect outdoor rockin’ weather.

New California Pop From The Reflections

This awesome new song “Summer Days” by The Reflections was just sent my way the other day and I think it’s definitely something worth your time.  It’s a breezy pop number that evokes the feelings of being on a beach in California, which the band would know a lot about being from L.A.  A solid release date for a new album from the group is not yet available, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear something.  Stay tuned.

New Rockin’ Tune From Blonde Summer

Well summer is finally over, but that doesn’t mean I can’t sneak in one or two songs to help brighten the sadness that has overcome those of us in education.  This shiny little number from Los Angeles based group Blonde Summer called “Robots On Command” is perfect for pulling us out of our end of vacation doldrums.  It’s got a great opening riff, continues to rock throughout, and has that nice bit of sunshine that those Californians all seem to take for granted.  The song appears on the band’s recently released EP Slow Daze which is available to purchase on iTunes.
