Acting Strange Share Did You Think

Been a minute since we’ve heard from Glasgow’s Acting Strange, but I’m definitely all over their latest single. At first, it looks back on Arab Strap, albeit in a somewhat poppier sense; it doesn’t sound as drenched in ale as the aforementioned act. As I listen on repeat a few times through, those pop bits seems to actually bubble to the surface, bursting with joy as they hit my ear. Plus, there’s this playful piano that closes out the tune over some fuzzed out electronic notes and a faint whistle, and I just love love love it. No word on if there’s a new LP to follow up Talk Talk Talk, but I’ll take this whatever the case!

Enjoying This New Active Strange

I’ve been writing about Acting Strange for quite some time, probably since the band’s inception, so why stop now…especially when I’m getting emails about Awolnation. This tune is a pretty simple pop ballad, with just enough sugary hooks to keep my ears attentive. It has some slight similarities to Mystery Jets, especially the way the vocals dictate the song’s natural cadence. Plus, as the song moves into the chorus, there’s this grand swelling, then the melody is dropped right on top of you. As of now, the band looks to be in the studio working on their follow-up to their 2017 album, Talk Talk Talk.

Lately I’ve been looking backa lot to find musical solace in my life, and when I came across this new tune from Acting Strange, I was really excited, as the song not only looks back on the innocence of early Beatles, it also makes a nod to early 70s glam. It’s a feel-good, straight-ahead jam that exhibits a wonderful control of pop structures, keeping things simple in order to maximize the appeal for listeners. The group will release Talk Talk Talk on March 31st via In Black Records, so it should be chock-full of catchy numbers you’ll want to hear again and again.
