Steven Lambke Announces Volcano Volcano

Finding out that Steven Lambke had a new album on the way ended up sending me spiraling down a good old fashioned Constantines kick. Pretty sure I played “You’re a Conductor” over and over again for a good 30 minutes. But, just because he played guitar in the aforementioned act, doesn’t mean we can expect his newest solo effort, Volcano Volcano, to sound anything like his old work. There’s definitely some slight nods, particularly when he strains his voice a bit, giving the song some old school bite to it. But, in between, he fills the song with these soft melodies and backing harmonies, arranging a ditty that falls somewhere between stomping indie rock and classic pop sounds. It’ll be interesting to see how this evolves, but we’ll find out when it drops on April 29th via You’ve Changed Records.

Another Ditty from Bry Webb

bryFor those of you that followed around Bry Webb and his old band, The Constantines, then perhaps you, like me, were in love with his voice.  It’s one of the most attractive things about his music, though his recent solo work displays a bit of a troubadour magic to boot.  This new single from his upcoming record has a bit more of a folk-y front to it, almost to the fact that it would be absolutely such if it weren’t for some of the nuanced touches he adds in.  On May 20th you’ll get to hear his new album, Free Will, which comes out via Idee Fixe Records.

New Tunes from Parlovr

Once again Montreal is giving birth to another new band sure to make waves on our side of the border, Parlovr.  The group is releasing their self-titled debut on June 8th here in the States, and it will include this track “Sandwalking.”  It has a real loose rock n’ roll feel to it, which means the band is sure to be incredible live, not to mention providing us with an energy-fueled debut LP.  Personally, it sounds a lot like The Constantines, and that’s a compliment.

The Constantines on Daytrotter

constantinesVancouver’s The Constantines have long been one of my favorite bands (I love their post-punk ways), and I always felt like no on gave them enough appreciation.  Luckily, Daytrotter has done me a favor; they put the band up with an unreleased track to boot!  The rest of the songs come from the group’s most recent effort Kensington Heights.  Check it.
