Free Week has been an absolute blast, but you’ve only got three more days to partake in Austin’s musical festivities. I suggest you maximize your time by hopping about from venue to venue. With only a few days left, I’m giving you suggestions on where you should find yourself Thursday night, with hopes you’ll listen and support these great bands. Read more

Friday night is always perfect for a solid dance party, so your place to be on this rainy week definitely has to be the ND. You’ll find a new line-up for Fresh Millions, as the group now is just the project of Geoff, working with loops and samples, rocking it out on his own. But, while we love Geoff, there’s a couple of other names on the bill, and my personal favorite is Orthy. I picked the group to have a huge year in Austin this year, and I want you to be a part of it. Also, Ricky Jean Francois is filling the middle spot, and I’ve heard nothing but good things. Dance party central? Let’s all show up and support the local gig.[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/01-Hot-New-Jam-from-73.mp3]

It’s no secret around these parts that Whitman are amigos of ours who also happen to make some pretty sweet power driven rock music. They’ve been doing their thing around Austin for longer than most and have built a faithful following of hood rat fans. This Friday, the band is celebrating the release of their brand new LP Weekend with a release show at The ND in Austin. Joining the guys are fellow local legends Golden Bear, The Couch, and Slowtrain. Needless to say, this shit is going to be epic. You can also get in your pre-order for the new album via the Whitman bandcamp site.[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/08-NW-Thurman.mp3]

Those of you that didn’t see me raving yesterday about the excellent new EP from Shivery Shakes, then you should definitely check out our REVIEW. But, for those of you also looking for a great local show, you need to head to the ND on Saturday night. You’ll get the jangling sun-pop of Shivery Shakes, not to mention a chance to grab their EP, but you also get to see some other local acts like Sleep Good and Burgess Meredith. BOY, who I’ve heard wonderful things about, will also be joining the festivities. Oh, and the first 50 through the door can grab a cool package with a poster, EP, and buttons included![audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Wait.mp3]

We had so much fun at our council meeting last month, we decided to do it all over again on Friday night at The North Door! It’s pretty much the same story as last time kids: great music, cheap drinks, and plenty of good people to hang with on Friday night. Being that it’s the holiday season, we’ll also try to incorporate some sweet holiday jams and give away some awesome holiday themed ATH prizes. Don’t forget that you can also partake of the great food provided at the North Door bar by the incredible Tamale Molly. Entrance to the North Door is in the alley directly behind The ND venue. According to the by-laws of Austin Town Hall, all readers of this site are required to attend.[audio: http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/07_Repatriated.mp3]

The Fun Fun Fun Fest powers that be announced recently that all after shows this year would be completely free for anyone holding a festival wristband. You can agree or disagree with me if you like, but that’s just about one of the most bad ass ideas I’ve ever heard. Leave it to the Transmission guys to continually outdo themselves year after year… So now that the festival is officially here, let us take a closer look at these Fun Fest Nites and give you a nightly recommendation on where we think you should be. Obviously these are just our picks and not intended as a fully detailed guide. For a complete listing of the Nites lineup, head to the official site. Follow the jump for our recs.

On Thursday night at the ND we’re helping sponsor a great show for a great cause to benefit the recently founded Artists Against Cancer foundation in Austin. The show features local veterans Flametrick Subs headlining with up and comers and ATH homies Whitman and Guns of Navarone also on hand to fill out the bill. All proceeds from the minimal door charge will be going directly to help those artists in need. You should also take some time to read up about the foundation on their new website and check out fellow sponsors sites by Powerhouse Animation and Sonora Records.
UPDATE: Unfortunately Whitman have had to cancel the show and a search is out for a replacement. Stay tuned for updates as we receive them.
Double UPDATE: Austin band So Long, Problems has stepped in to fill the void left by Whitman. They will go on second after GoN.[audio: http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Austin-Town-Hall-I-Bid-You-Farewell.mp3]

That’s right ladies and gents, we’re back this Friday evening with another ATH council meeting at The North Door. What is a council meeting you ask? Well, it’s a meeting of the most upstanding gentlemen on the ATH staff and their high class friends. We all gather ’round the bar while DJ Nate-L and RayRay spin the hottest hits this side of the Mississppi. Rumor has it that the last council meeting consisted of cheap drinks, tasty tunes from all decades, loose women, and tons of booty shakin’. Seriously, everyone had way more fun than you did pissing your savings away on West 6th. Don’t forget that admission is free and your ATH Djs usually kick things off around 8pm. Come say hi.
Head to the North Door website for a map of it’s location (it’s behind theND).[audio: http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/3-Life-Magazine-final.mp3]

When one is asked about local music in the indie Austin scene, most people will initially cite Quiet Company as one of the hottest up and comers in town. The guys have been making a name for themselves for several years now and are continuing to work hard to build their rep. This Friday, the band has put together one hell of a local lineup at The ND to celebrate the release of their new album We Are All Where We Belong. QC are of course headlining, but let’s not forget about the stacked undercard of this show with ATH amigos Whitman, Saints of Valory and Black Books all on the bill. If you were wanting to see the best and brightest this town has to offer, this is the place to do it kids. Quiet Company have also put together all sorts of crazy ticket packages on their website with a variety of goodies thrown in depending on how much you want to spend
Also of interest to you kids, the ATH crew will be on hand DJing in the recently opened North Door (back bar of ND) between bands and before and after the show. Come say hello and check out some sweet tunes when you aren’t rocking out. We’ll be trying out some new KTTD and *$. remixes of course…
This is where you should be Friday night. Bottom line.[audio: http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/fear-_-fallacy_-stitting-in-a-tree.mp3]

The CAST!! That’s right ladies and gents, one of my favorite bands of all time The Appleseed Cast are making a much anticipated stop into Austin this Saturday night at the ND. These guys have been doing their thing for so long now and I’m amazed that they still manage to make powerful music despite some people claiming they’ve lost it. Heck, their song “Middle States” from the EP of same title released earlier this year is easily one of my top played songs on the old itunes. They’ve still got what it takes kids. In other news, I see no word of an opener on the ND website or via The Cast site so it looks like you’ll need to be on time for this one.[audio: http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/03-Middle-States-1.mp3]
