Stream Paperhead’s Chew LP

Talked and hyped up Chew about as much as one man can, but now it’s time for you to take matters into your own hands. The Paperhead have expanded their sound, making some softer tunes that exhibit a strong dedication to the songwriting on this effort. I’m still stuck listening to “Over and Over” on repeat, but, as per usual, I’m happy with anything they’ve got out. You’ll be able to get that record from Trouble in Mind come this Friday.

Another Gem from The Paperhead

While the Paperhead fell early into the psychedelic charms with their early releases, it has become increasingly clear that the band have focused on broadening their sound. Their latest single illustrates such, bringing in a pastoral folk appeal that’s been perfected by so few. You’ll hear a distant guitar sliding, texturing the track…almost making it a wonderful Western ballad you’d want to hear as the sun falls beneath the horizon. This track will show up on the band’s forthcoming LP, Chew, which is being released by the uber-reliable Trouble in Mind Records on February 17th. A broader sound should allow for broader appeal, btu regardless, there’s some brilliant stuff in this album.

Sorry I Missed This: New Paperhead Tune

TIM083.Paperhead.Africa-Avenue-LP.jktIt seems to me like The Paperhead of this great ability to always weave new influences in sounds into their works, yet still sound roughly the same.  Just a week or so back, they tossed up this brand new track, and it’s definitely filled with more of a 60s vibe.  But, that style was always in their songwriting, it just lurked in the shadows, hanging out behind the reverb and psychedelic touches.  Aside from the lasers fighting off the martians in the background, this new tune has a bit more of a straightforward approach.  I’ll be interested in what they have to offer on their new LP, Africa Avenue, which Trouble in Mind Records is putting out on November 11th.

Psych Fest Preview: The Paperhead (+ New Song)

Psych Fest is going down this weekend over on the East Side of town, and I wanted to give you a few bands I think you should check out.  The first band I’ve got for you is Nashville’s The Paperhead.  After releasing a wonderful self-titled record last year, they’ve got a new 7″ on Trouble in Mind Records this year; this new jam displays their blossoming maturity in regards to their songwriting.  You will find that it’s a lot less psychedelic than the last effort, almost coming off as the second coming of the Kinks or the Beatles (neither of which is a bad thing).  There’s still hints of darkness in the sound, but the writing’s lacks some of the frills.  Regardless, this a band that many have taken notice of in the last couple of years, and you should add your name to the list.

You can catch their set at 3:15 at Emo’s East on Saturday! And here’s one of their new tracks off that aforementioned 7″.

New Music From The Paperhead

The Paperhead is a Nashville based band comprised of 3 friends who are mere 18 years of age.  These 3 teens apparently got together last summer, recorded a record, and are now ready to share their style with the music world.  A first sample of what these guys are all about can be found below in first single from the band “Back to Those Days”.  It wields a very old school type feel harking back to the days of fuzz pop and pysch rock.  Fans of the style can pick up a copy of the group’s debut self-titled LP on March 22nd via Trouble in Mind Records.
