The Primitives Share Panic + Release New EP

You’ve got to get something with a little spring to it, right? That’s why this great single from classic UK outfit the Primitives is perfect. I was drawn to the rhythm section, almost riffing on a reggae/rock-steady grooves, giving the tune this galloping feel from the very start. Tracy Tracy’s vocal performance is spot on for pop fans; she has these classic notes that recall the best of the 60s/70s performances, which likely make her one of the great voices, period. Plus, you throw all that together with classic indie rock, and you’ve got another charming song from the long-running outfit. Plus, today they release their Don’t Know Where to Start EP courtesy of HHBTM.

The Primitives Triumph with First New Song in 22 Years

primilWhat do you do when you haven’t written new music in 22 years? Well, if you’re the Primitives you knock it out of the fucking park.  The legendary band have completed their first album in over two decades, and if you’er wondering how good it can sound then just let yourself smile as you press play below.  It’s hard to see that the band has been absent, as they clearly fit right into the modern music world, which either indicates how influential they’ve truly been or how little we’ve really changed…or perhaps both.  I’m grinning ear to ear over here enjoy this song. Look for Spin-O-Rama on October 14th via Elefant Records.

Cover Tune from Pickwick (ft. Sharon Van Etten)

I’m a fan of collaboration, especially when it’s executed properly.  It doesn’t take much to get me excited about Sharon Van Etten either, so when I found that Seattle’s Pickwick was joining up with the lady love, I had to post the tune for you.  “Lady Luck” is a Richard Swift cover, which uses the strength of Van Etten to push the song into a soulful flow of soft rock.  This is just one of three covers the band recently released on a Covers EP, which also has tunes from Damien Jurado and The Primitives.  They’ll also be releasing their own full length in March, which is highly anticipated at the ATH offices.
