The Permits Announce Time Permits LP

I had no idea there was a Permits until the other day, which just goes to show you how important it is to keep an eye on your favorite acts; the band is a super-group of sorts, gathering up members of Chook Race, Dag, Pop Singles and the Shifters to help one another wrap up odds and ends of songs they had left from their various projects. They ultimately recorded the record in a short time with Jesse Williams of Girlatones (who also put out a brilliant LP this year!), then they’ve been working through the pandemic on overdubs and final tweaks. Just one listen, and you get what you’re looking for; you get that nostalgic NYC underground pop sound, spun through the lens of the best musicians in Australia. Pretty much the perfect way to introduce yourself to the world I reckon; Time Permits will be out on November 26th via Tenth Court.

Another Track from the Shifters

If you weren’t convinced by the first single from The Shifters we shared with you, then perhaps you’ll realize what you’ve been missing with their latest. Listening through again and again, the song works like a polished version of Television Personalities; it employs bits of humor and constant melody. The chorus offers a nice turn in the track, utilizing backing vocals to further entice listeners with pop sensibility. For me, the band’s success (and its on display in this video) is that there’s a sense of enjoyment that seeps through your speakers; you can feel the band having a blast, perhaps leading to you sharing the same sentiment in listening. Have a Cunning Plan is out September 21st via Trouble In Mind.

The Shifters Announce New LP on Trouble in Mind

What!? Another band from Melbourne, Australia that rules? This time the band is The Shifters, and they’ve just announced they’ll be releasing their debut LP via Trouble in Mind Records. Our first listen has this rad bouncing rhythm line with matching guitar cuts jangling to keep the pace; it strangely grips you and never lets go. The subject matter, and accompanying video, seem to be taking a knock on a very ordinary life…which is weird because I’m working now, and then going to the gym…are these guys mocking me!? Doesn’t matter, the song is precisely what’s made the group a hot item; they release Have a Cunning Plan on September 21st.
