Last Week’s Jams (3.25 – 3.29)

A lot of really great stuff popped up last week, and we did our best to be on top of as much as we could, though admittedly, it’s a bit of a busy season on our parts (life wise). We were stoked to hear some stuff from Austin homies in the Juniper Berries and Strand of Oaks, both offering great new music you’ll love. Zero Point Energy dropped another tune from their exciting debut, as well as new music from Writhing Squares that sees them stretching our expectations of their sound. Plus, got to finally circle back on some things that had been waiting, like Crumbs, System Exclusive and Climax Landers. Oh, and we ran a Rock n Recipes with our friends in Outer World, so be sure to check it. A few acts like Goosewind and Jetstream Pony didn’t have their stuff up on streaming, so be sure to give it a listen if you’d like.

The Shop Window Shares Fresh Single

Figured we’d start off everyone’s Friday with something bright and glittery, and what better way to go that route than a new sweeping pop tune from The Shop Window. As soon as you hear the ringing of the guitars bending carefully, you know that you’re in for a track that’s meant for a sense of longing. Vocals are offered up in a perfect melodic structure, with a bit of punching emphasis on the notes during the chorus. The subject matter itself is actually the opposite of what one would expect from the title “Blues,” as it seems its more of a ballad of appreciation and love for those that can help rid us of the blues. Oh, and stick through to the end, as there’s a nice little powerful rise in the tune near the 4 minute mark! You’ll find this song on Daysdream, the group’s record, which comes out on May 3rd.

Last Week’s Jams (1.22 – 1.26)

Another busy week, and 2024 is just chock-full of really incredible tunes. Some of my favorite acts like Rosie Tucker and Red Pinks and Purples popped up with fresh tunes to warm us over, so that was a bonus. Plus, the site got to hose a bunch of premieres from Jay Alan Kay, Ryann Gonsalves and Al Harper, hopefully turning you on to what we think is cool. Bubbling under are rad tunes from from Non La, True Green and Corridor…actually every tune we ran was kick ass! Plus, ATH Records dropped Vibrations Now from Fantastic Purple Spots, so you win by streaming below to catch the title track.

The Shop Window Share I Run

We should all start our day with a little bit of sunshine, and a little bit of janglepop, as nothing quite encourages you to open the curtains as those ringing guitar tones. It seems the Shop Window had the same idea in mind when organizing the tracks on their new Daysdream LP, as the jam below kicks things off with these huge crystalline cascading riffs, hanging over a thumping rhythm section. Of course, you couldn’t get away with just throwing those classic indie sounds in there if you didn’t center it around a great voice like Carl Mann’s, who gets help every step of the way with some great backing vocal layers. If you’re into it, then you’ll want to grab Daysdream when it drops via Jangleshop on May 3rd.

The Shop Window Shares Out of Reach

Just over here keeping it real on the indiepop front today, so why not keep that boat a-rocking by sharing the latest tune from The Shop Window. While the vocals have that melodic softness you’d associate with the genre, the guitar work has this heavier feel, almost pulling you towards the crossover of dream pop. That combination crafts something that hurls you through this nostalgic warp where your favorite hits had you bouncing and dancing and singing and smiling; the chorus definitely feels fresh whilst looking back on club hits of the late 80s. You’ll find this tune featured on the band’s latest 7″ for Spinout Nuggets, dropping on January 29th.
