That New Wolfhounds Single

Hopefully the Slumberland Records compilation of the Wolfhounds‘s John Peel Sessions reminded those of us out there about the talent from one of the original C86 acts. They’ve been releasing new music here and there, and now we’ve got news that they’ll be releasing Electric Music later this year. This song is chock-full of swirling guitars and bounding rhythms; they fit perfectly into the visual presentation from David Janes. Callahan’s voice has this steadying vibe throughout, even when he stretches it through the chorus, balanced by the backing vocals. I love the guitar ringing out around the 3 minute mark as the tune pushes towards it brooding close. The new LP will be out on July 3rd via A Turntable Friend Records.

New Music from David Lance Callahan

David Lance Callahan has been part of the music community as long as I’ve been alive (30+ years); he’s been part of both The Wolfhounds and Moonshake, but we’re getting to here him below entirely on his own. He’s crafted this delicate, pastoral tune, perfect to take us all into the Winter seasons, offering warmth for those close listeners. Callahan recorded these tunes at home, simply, utilizing little more than guitar and a sampler, with a few friends thrown in to provide the harmonies; the technique definitely provides the listener a certain intimacy that brings you into the world of the songwriter. You’ll find this track as an A-side tune for the SLR30 Single Series, and odds are you’ll find a new album in the works for 2019 as well. Don’t worry if you didn’t sign up for the SLR30SS, as Slumberland generally has a few extras on hand.

Slumberland to Release The Wolfhounds Peel Sessions

The Wolfhounds might not be a household name, but their role in the lineage of all things indiepop is definitely important. The band appeared on the C86 tape, which, as you know, is a vital piece, if not the holy grail of the genre. While they’ve remained active as of late, this post is about the issuing of three sessions of music recorded with legendary John Peel. Of course the reissue is being handled by Slumberland Records who will release Hands in the Till on July 27th…allowing you to complete your own Wolfhounds collection. So lovely to have these songs before us.
