A fun, exciting, and sometimes exhausting Weekend one of Austin City Limits Festival is officially in the books kids. As always, the organizers managed to run things like a well oiled machine of music festival royalty. We saw some significant changes this year for the first time in awhile, and while many might have been skeptical at first, things still went off without a hitch. For weekend one, myself, Nicole, and BGray were all in attendance frantically covering as much ground as possible. We’ll start some recaps today with thoughts from all three of us and some quick shots from photo man Brian.

Yep, another cover, another day. But, Austin’s Orthy don’t just cover Tom Petty’s “Listen to Her Heart,” they totally reimagine the song itself, leaving no resemblance of the original save the lyrics. There’s these dark electronic pulses during the chorus, while the remainder of the song is a smoothed-out electro croon. The song features on a digital release that just came out this week via Dither Down, allowing listeners the chance to also listen to various remixes from the group’s E.M.I.L.Y. EP, which we raved about last year. Give it a listen, and enjoy your day just a little better.
Following the tradition of scheduling a “who’s who” of the last 50 years of pop music, Bruce Springsteen will be following up The Stones, U2, Sir Paul, Prince and Tom Petty to play Super Bowl XLII. I think everyone saw this one coming. Let’s just hope that Tony Romo and The Blue Stars will be showcased as the headlining act.
