Franklin Gothic Share Mr. Hangman Single

I know that its Monday, but I’m really feeling the grooves of late night summer coursing through my listening rotation today. This new single from Franklin Gothic is all about that chillwave pool party vibe, albeit with a little bit of weirdness thrown into it. Jay Dibartolo has some solid pipes, nice and softened near the edges, so as to give that coy croon to the song. That feel matches up with the string arrangements that get layered into the tune, taking this late night vibe straight into lounge mode. You’ll find this song on Into the Light, which will be dropping in August via Very Jazzed/Pleasure Tapes.

Driving Pop from Get a Life

There’s something about Chase DeMaster’s writing for Get a Life that seems built for the every-man. It’s accessible and hook-laden, crafted with just enough flare of indifference to make the cool kids swoon. It probably doesn’t hurt that Yuuki Matthews (Shins) handled the production for the recording; it’s clear that there’s a sense of layered pop sensibility, particularly in the way vocals are trapped on top of one another. Of course, no great pop song is complete with out its ability to relate to the listener, so just spend time listening to all the people telling Chase to get a job in this song. You’ll know exactly how he feels, which likely means we’ll all find ourselves relating to the hooks and lyrics from the band’s new album, Our Band Could Be Your Life, out next February.

Dance Yrself Clean with Guess Genes

We’re big fans of Houston’s Buxton, so it would make sense that we’d be ready to jump on board with Sergio Trevino’s new project, Guess Genes. But, aside from Sergio, there aren’t too many sonic similarities; his work now includes his lyrical storytelling working over club-worthy beats. Like the best of the electronic genre, there’s little guitar chords clearly cutting through the beat, forcing a nice little bounce in your step. Feel like today we could also use a step-up, seeing as its only Wednesday, so why not turn up and dance around with GG. The project will drop a self-titled album sometime this May via Very Jazzed.
