Lockhart Record Fair – 11/19

If ya’ll are looking for some Sunday fun day type activities with a small road trip involved as well, I suggest you head out to Lockhart on Sunday afternoon for the first ever Lockhart Record Fair. Things kick off at 11am in downtown at Lockhart Arts & Crafts with a ton of great vendors from all over the central Texas area selling all sorts of new and used records. This event is put on by our pals out at Plum Creek Records who are leading the Radio Lockhart effort which hopes to bring a non-profit radio station to their town. If you care to donate to their cause, a giving page is set up on Give Butter. Come out, say hey, and grow your collection!

Here are some social links to all our vendors – Alchemy Records, Antone’s, Big Henry’s, Christopher Lea, Jason Chronis, Ray Ray’s Record (ME!), Resurrected Records, Yard Sale Records, and of course, Plum Creek Records.

Telemarket – Ad Nauseam

Rating: ★★★½☆

If you don’t know Telemarket, you should check them out. I didn’t, and thanks to an email from Adam Wayton, lead singer and producer of the 5-piece band out of Athens, GA, I was turned on to their debut album, Ad Nauseam, released in late August for the first time on Science Project Records, an affiliate of Cloud Recordings. Sidenote: If you don’t know what ad nauseam means, go look it up, says your English teacher. Hit the jump for full review and tunes to stream.

ATH DJ Night @ Tweedy’s (7.14)

Tomorrow night ja boys will be back over at Tweedy’s near campus spinning our favorite tunes on the inside decks near the icy cold bar area. As always, we’ll be running a vinyl only set up with tunes coming straight from our very own collections. Genres will be scattered but always upbeat and requests will be noted. Come say hey, enjoy a drink and maybe snag some snacks from the new Counter Culture trailer.

Things kick off at 5pm and run till they tell us to stop! Ya dig it.

ATH Vinyl Night @ Tweedys Bar (2.17)

ATH is back on our BS this Friday as we try to kickstart your weekend right with some tunes spinning on the tables over at Tweedys bar near campus from 5pm-8pm(ish). As per usual, the music will feature an eclectic mix of random tunes we like with requests taken but not always honored. All music comes straight from our very own record collections and is sure to get your feet moving, so bring your party pants.

We’ll also have some used LPs and 45s for sale from the legend @djrayray_ath. Prices are cheap and always negotiable. Bring it.

ATH Vinyl Mixes

As many of you know, the ATH team is made up of a few dudes who are absolutely obsessive about collecting records. Seriously, pretty much all we do during the day is waste time (between posting tunes of course) chatting online about what’s currently on our want lists or what we found while digging around town. Heck, I’ve even started selling, Nathan puts out records, and we’ve all been spinning our tunes around town as much as possible.

We’ve tossed around some ideas about how to bring our love of collecting to the pages of ATH, and one idea that stuck was to create some playlists from our various collections. I recently played around with this at home and we’re making a couple of those streams available now on our new ATH Vinyl Mixes page, coming via hosting service MixCloud. These are still pretty rough as we figure out the best system for recording, but we’d love for you to check them out and offer any feedback. Our very first mix is below with another more hip-hop oriented set over on our new Mixes page. All songs are recorded using records from our own collection with zero editing, streaming or digital music. Keep physical media alive y’all.

We’ve got more ideas brewing so stay tuned and happy digging.

Vinyl Convention @ Mohawk (10.9)

Date Sunday, October 9th
Location Mohawk Austin
Event Time 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Tickets FREE for all

If you’re like me and most of our ATH staff, you spend a lot of time buying records, digging through crates, and hell, even making wantlists to plan out your next purchases. I also am not a huge fan of massive crowds and absorbent prices, so that whole big convention last weekend just isn’t my bag. So if you’re a collector who likes to dig, chat with old friends, and also lives on a collecting budget, come on down to Mohawk on Sunday and shop at our (much more chill) vinyl convention. A whole slew of great, all local vendors will be there selling all varieties of both new and lovingly used records. My newly adorned booth, “Ray Ray’s Records and Music Stuff” will have a large selection of recently acquired LPs and 45s along with my vintage collection of hats, shirts, posters, cards, and music collectibles. Everything is reasonably priced with bulk deals encouraged. Come say hey on your way in or out of ACL and take home some Austin magic.

On a random record collecting note, if you haven’t watched this great documentary Record Safari – Digging in the Crates of America on Youtube, it’s well worth your time.

Vinyl Market @ Central Machine Works (7.10)

Date Sunday, July 10th
Location Central Machine Works
Doors 11:00 AM
Tickets Free!

Before you head out for the weekend, I’m hoping you will save the date for an absolutely insane vinyl market going down at Central Machine Works on Sunday from 11am to 4pm. Why so insane you ask? This event will feature ALL the heavy hitters slinging vinyl in this town, plus music from DJ Dead Flowers and cheap beer/food prices all day. Shop from our local homies Waterloo Records, Breakaway Records, BLK Vinyl, Love Wheel Records, Whetstone Audio, Spaceflight Records, Keeled Scales, The Next Waltz, and 9Mile Records. Yeah, it’s going to be a thing. Oh yeah and I’ll be there as well selling ATH Records releases along with a ton of used LPs, 45s, hats, shirts, memorabilia and posters.

Stop by the booth, say hey, and we’ll make you a deal on something so you go home happy with new music, new digs, and new art for the wall. We promise to be way more chill with a hell of a lot more pricing flexibility than anything featured at Palmer. Nudge nudge, wink wink.

The Vinyl Market takes place inside!

Avail Reissue Satiate On Vinyl

I’m sure if you frequent our site, you’re likely thinking…what the hell? Avail? Well, the Richmond act was one of the staples of my young catalogue, and, I was fortunate to work for a band in the 00s that toured with them. They were kind and hilarious, and taught us sort of the rules of running your own life within the confines of the music biz…and for that I’m sure we’re all very grateful. So, now that Satiate is going to be back on vinyl, for the first time in 15 years no less, I reckoned I would toss it up here, as even on extra person picking it up helps a band. Plus, it rules. There’s still some of these songs I can sing every word to, which I’ll be honest, isn’t always the case anymore…but that’s a whole other digression on listening habits. Links to BUY are HERE.

ATH Vinyl HH @ Knomad Bar (7/5)
