St. Vincent In Austin (6/19)

stvincentEveryone’s favorite indie songstress Annie Clark (known as St. Vincent) will be making another much anticipated stop in Austin on Friday.  First up is one of those famous free Waterloo Records in-stores going down at 3pm with free keg beer of course.  Second is a chance for a full on proper set at Mohawk beginning at 9pm with openers Pattern is Movement.  Tickets for this show will run ya $17 and can be bought online now.  If you’re planning on making it out, stick around after the St. Vincent set for an inside show by our new favorite Austin band Sad Accordions.

Camera Obscura In Austin (6/15)

camera-obscuraWe’ve had our calendars marked for Camera Obscura coming to town ever since we fell in love with their new release My Maudlin Career.  So now the time is here and lucky for all us fans, the Glasgow band is playing two shows on Monday!  First up is an intimate stripped down Camera set at Waterloo Records around 1pm.  Second is a full on proper set around 9pm at Antone’s downtown.  Hellz yeah!  The late night show features opening support from Anni Rossi and an entrance fee of $20.  Check out one our favorite jams from the last year below and tell me you aren’t pumped up for this one!

Gomez @ Waterloo Records – TODAY!

gomesThose clever Brits in Gomez have been around for over a decade, and yet, they’ve never really broken huge overseas, that is until recently. Their consistency and dedication have finally broken through, and the band is getting much deserved acclaim over in los Estados Unidos. You can catch them for free today at Waterloo Records at 5 PM or you can catch them outside at Stubbs on the very same evening!  Catch one or catch both and you’ll be glad you did.

Manchester Orchestra In Austin (5/26)

man_orch_01Hotlanta rockers Manchester Orchestra are coming through town on Tuesday and have two shows lined up for you Austin music lovers.  First show is a Waterloo Records in-store which starts around 5pm and will of course have free keg beer if you get there early enough.  Second show will be a full on proper set at Emo’s later in the evening at 8pm.  This show features Audrye Sessions, Fun and Winston Audio playing in support.  Tickets are on sale for $10.

FT5: Things To Buy On Record Store Day

0417top5coverThis Saturday, April 18th, is Record Store Day all across these United States. Sure, that seems like just another Saturday to most buyers, but the true record geek in all of us is already waiting in line. You see, on Record Store Day, you get to do two things: you get to support your favorite local indpendent record store and you get loads of limited edition stuff.  Me, personally, I can’t wait. I’ve already crafted a list so as to move through my favorite record store with ease in pursuit of such rarities that one can only dream.  The following is the list of the great things one can find at their local indpendent store, and we encourage you to do so, as this is the day the stores give back to us, and we give back to them.

Andrew Bird In Austin

andrewbirdThe always incredible Andrew Bird is passing through our town this week and you’ve got two chances to see him.  The first comes at a Waterloo instore on Wednesday which should start at 5pm with free keg beer.  Get to the instore early as it’s sure to be a popular one. The very next day, Andrew will be playing an intimate set at The Paramount Theatre downtown with music starting at 9pm.  That show is sold out, so check yourself some craigslist to find tickets.

Cold War Kids In Austin (10/24)

The Cold War Kids will be playing a couple shows in Austin this Friday.  First one is a free show at Waterloo Records going down at 5pm with free keg beer of course.  Second show of the day takes place at Emo’s with A.A. New Music From Trail Of Dead

…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have some new songs online from their EP released today Festival Thyme.  You can hear the song “Inland Sea” over on Stereogum and “The Bells of Creation (Machete Mix)” on the band’s myspace page.  You can also purchase and download a digital copy of the EP on the Justice Records website today.  If your’re more hands on oriented, the EP is available in limited edition 10″ picture disc vinyl from any fine record store like Waterloo Records.  Is this a return to form for the Austin boys?

Ra Ra Riot @ The Parish – 10/3

The crooning pop of Ra Ra Riot will make its way into Austin this Friday, twice!  They will be playing a free show at our favorite record store, Waterloo Records at 5 PM.  Then they’ll graba bite to eat before heading on over to the Parish to close out the evening.  If you’re not sure about whether you want to go, just check out our review of the latest album The Rhumb Line .
