Feeling Small Shares First Single

One of the great things about working on a site like this is you can do whatever you want, and I would like today to turn our attention to our friend Chase Weinacht and his new project Feeling Small. We’ve worked with Chase before, but for this project he’s amassed a rotating cast of Austin characters including members of Why Bonnie and Good Looks. Honestly, this song’s hard to distance from Chase, but I think his personality it what bleeds into his music; he’s a gentle soul a loyal friend and a supporter of all of you, even if you don’t know it yet…I think of that whenever I hear his words pop through my speakers, grateful that there’s still folks like him writing great songs with their friends. His songs are the opposite of the band’s name; they make you feel huge and part of something bigger than yourself. But, don’t take my word for it, stream the new tune below!

Last Week’s Jams (3.13 – 3.17)

We obviously had a busy week being out and about in Austin, but we did cover some tracks early in the week we wanted to remind you of from the likes of Cindy and John Andrew. But, the rest of this week’s playlist of tracks includes singles from all the band’s we caught live and fell in love with during SXSW. Fortunately for you, the three of us all have distinctly different tastes, with lots of overlap, so you’re going to get a pretty varied jam session here this Monday morning. Sit back, and stream on.

Last Week’s Jams (1.9 – 1.13)

We had a rough start last week, with a wee bit of server issues…plus getting back into work after some time off. But, we came back to a bunch of sweet tunes from some ATH favorites…new videos from Blues Lawyer and En Attendant Ana, not to mention one that tied up the excellent LP from Doom Flower. I was blown away by another fresh track from Joyeria, and RayRay did a little write up on our friends in Why Bonnie. I was really in love with that Grey Factor tune we ran at the end of the week, but it hasn’t made it onto streaming platforms, so check that out before digging into new EPs from Dippers and Peel Dream Magazine.

Show Highlight: Why Bonnie @ Antones (1.15)

Why Bonnie is one of those local(ish) bands we feel like we grew up with as we were there from the beginning several years ago, the move away from town, and their rise in fandom over the past year. Of course much of this new found buzz has come after the release of the absolutely stunning, and ATH year end list hogging album, 90 in November. Since the band took their talents to the East Coast, we don’t get to see them live as much as we’d like, but they are back in town on Sunday with a headlining show at Antone’s downtown. Prior to the Sunday show, leading lady Blair was kind enough to answer a few burning questions about her band, their last album, and what the future holds. Hit the jump for Q&A along with ticket link and music.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (7.25 – 7.29)

I don’t know if you guys noticed, but RayRay got a new gig, so he’s had tons more time to get some sweet jams up! It’s great, as we definitely have some crossover, but also our own styles, so our playlists are probably much more diverse! I mean, just last week he premiered new Mother Sun and Peter Matthew Bauer, while I was rocking the heck out of Almond Joy and The Smashing Times. I mean, there’s no winner, but you! We also were able to get some old friends on the pages with Why Bonnie and Cam Bina! So, happy Monday to us all!

Why Bonnie Shares Nowhere, LA

It takes nearly a minute for the rest of the band to catch up to Blair Howerton on Why Bonnie‘s newest single, which is fitting, as the song takes on a bit of a personal narrative about Blair being stuck in the middle of nowhere with an ex in Louisiana. But, while I love Blair’s voice, the song’s emotional appeal definitely gets upped when the drums hit and the song erupts, albeit subtilely. It’s one of the reasons the band’s forthcoming 90s in November feels so intimate; Howerton delivers this incredibly personal details in her storytelling, while the band builds the depth behind her; this song illustrates that point, with a perfect moment of punctuation in the chorus. We’ve always rated the band highly, and we’re looking forward to seeing how you all enjoy the LP; it drops on August 19th via Keeled Scales.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (5.23 – 5.27)

Well, last week was a struggle. End of the school year, for two teachers, and well, then that other thing, so we barely got to the end of the week, let alone hit the musical stride with our usual fervor. So, our end of week wrap-up, which we give you at the beginning, is a little short. But, there’s new jams from great releases like R.E. Seraphin, Why Bonnie or Dehd, plus a rad new track off Hazy Sour Cherry‘s forthcoming LP for Damnably. And hey, you can never go wrong having a Tony Molina tune in there. So, here’s to one foot in front of the other with our favorite jams from last week.

Why Bonnie Announce 90 in November

After a nice bit of success with their Voice Box EP, and a move to New York, Why Bonnie are ready to announce their debut, 90 in November. And, despite a move up North, they’re still keeping it Austin, working with our own Keeled Scales to keep the Texas ties intact. That return seems to tie in with the theme for their debut, as the press releases describes the album as “a road trip through Texas,” which is perhaps informed by the reflective nature facing songwriter Blair after a major life change such as her move to NYC. The song keeps the band’s playful guitar pop throughout, giving a little bit of punch in the latter half to really kick the song into gear. Looks to me like the band are offering up good vibes and good memories; we’re stoked to hear the rest of 90 in November; it drops on August 19th.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (11.8 – 11.12)

We’re here with your weekly addition of Last Week’s Jams, with a slight little spin on things this week. For starters, there were certainly some jams on our pages, so we hope you’ll revisit…may I recommend the Crabber record again? Plus, you’ve got the new hits from Slumberland Records (who had a killer week in our eyes). And, in the end, I threw in a couple of tracks from shows we were able to see last week, or the week before, just as a reminder for us when we listen to our own playlists! Listen to some songs, and have a really great week friends!

New Music from Why Bonnie

It’s always nice to hear from old friends, so here we are with the latest single from Why Bonnie, formerly a staple of Austin’s music scene. This new single is the first thing we’ve heard from the band since their last EP, and the promising vibe here will hopefully make its way onto a new LP. I love how the band hold some resolve in this recording; Blair’s voice rises and seems to sink out this sort of climactic explosion…and to be fair…it’s there, but held back just enough to not overstep the selling point, which is undoubtedly Howerton’s voice. Let’s hope this new single signals more tunes!
