Free Week is just about here, and that means I should prepare you for the great show we’re putting on at Holy Mountain on Monday, January 5th. We’ve got Slow, Jonly Bonly, Shivery Shakes, Grape St. and also Young Girls. I’m going to toss out a little love to each band every day before the show, in hopes you’ll come join us. Also, don’t forget that our show is also a celebration bash for Pooneh Ghana, local photographer extraordinaire. So, here’s a bit on Young Girls. Read more
What’s the point in running your own site if you can’t promote the bands you’re working with? As you surely know, we’re really stoked to be working with Punctum Records to release the Shivery Shakes LP next week. It’s titled Three Waves and a Shake, and it shows their refined pop sound finally ready for mass consumption. The dudes in the band have been kind enough to share this little teaser album video, featuring snippets of the tracks and hotshot photographer, Pooneh Ghana. You can order your LP HERE, and check out releases from Ramesh, Young Girls, Literature and Grape St while you’re at it.
When I started ATH Records with my friend Mike, we had two rules: 1) Put out records we love 2) Work with people we love. We’ve stuck to that, in our opinion, but now the family of one of our bands, Young Girls, are going through a hard time. Guitarist Pete Tijerina’s brother has been diagnosed with cancer, and the costs are definitely not easy to deal with. So, since we love those guys, and they’re part of our family too, we’re going to donate 50% of all sales on ATH Records to support the Tijerina family at this time; we’ll be running this benefit for the next 3 weeks. You can buy the Young Girls EP, Literature LP or Grape St. LP, and help support their family. Listen to all the releases HERE and pick up one or more copies HERE. Thanks for helping us help our family.
You can also donate directly to the family HERE.
She Sir opened and are getting tighter and tighter. The material from their latest effort was the perfect start to the night, engaging or the background music for patio time, you get to choose.
Young Girls played new stuff, the entire EP and a few of the hits that made us fall for them. Now a lean three piece and bolstered by Nicholas powering away on drums, Pete and Charlie split front man duties. I am biased, but I loved their set the mostest.
Ramesh is the latest in the ATH Records stable, test-pressing in Nathan’s mitts. Two members of the brand new backing band are friends from Shivery Shakes; they had about a day to learn the material. If the material can be this good live as a new ensemble, I cannot wait for them to get more time together. This record could be one of the best of the year.
Abram Shook had the backing vocalists on stage this time around and as he put it, the songs just get sexier. We love this record, go see him ASAP.
PICS A PLENTY AFTER THE BREAK!!!
We’ve been talking about this for weeks, and we’re just a day away from what we consider to be one of the best bills in town Friday night, if not THE best bill in town. All four acts have released great albums or EPs this year, which alone warrants your attendance. Doors are at 9, and at 9:30, you’ll get to hear She Sir. Their album Go Guitars needs to be in your collection, especially if you consider yourself a fan of dreamy indiepop. Next up are Young Girls, who we helped release their Young Girls EP; it’s infectious surf pop with a dose of bad ass. Following them will be Ramesh; we’ll be releasing his debut album on vinyl shortly, so come sample everything great he’s got in store. And the night closes with Abram Shook, long considered one of the best songwriters in town. If you don’t have his album Sun Marquee, you’ll want to grab it at the show! So come one, come all, and get there early to have the night of your life, with us, your friends at ATH and Side One Track One.
Pretty straight forward night of jams to celebrate the launch of the Young Girls EP. We got a little silly, we listened to some music, we watched the Rockets lose. Nathan was happy about that, Pete was not.
As the big bonus, we got to hang out with ATH old friends like Shivery Shakes and more recent friends like Reservations. I’ll just let everyone know now that it was a dream local lineup for Team ATH and we were there to the bitter end shimmying despite duties as assigned in the morning.
Check out the pics for proof after the break.
This wasn’t how this show was originally planned, but sometimes your stars all line up in the right way, and we’re happy to announce that this Thursday we’ll be throwing down with Young Girls to release their much anticipated 7″, courtesy of Austintownhall Records. I’ve got the EP down below for you to jam to your hearts conent, guaranteeing you’ll want to be there, or you can order it HERE. Another reason to come…two of the best young bands in Austin, Shivery Shakes and Reservations. I can’t go on too much about SS, as my lady friend is getting a little jealous of William, but I can say this: I’ve been watching them play for awhile, and while they were always good, they’ve never sounded as great and confident as they do now. And Reservations? That’s a band that is expected to have a huge year; the songs are there, the drive is there, it’s just a matter of time before it blows up. So come join us, and I’ll sell you a 7″.
We’ve been talking about it for weeks, and dreaming about it for even longer, but today the Young Girls EP goes live. You can pick it up digitally from the band themselves, or you can wait two weeks and pick it up from us in a double-sided vinyl format. Either way, we figured it was best if we let you hear it, that way you know just how much you’ll need to get your hands on it. Things have been going pretty quickly online, so don’t wait around too long, as it’s limited to 500 copies of delicious hits. Grab it from us HERE.
Oh Young Girls. When you’ve got the hits, you’ve got the hits. We’re excited to put out the Young Girls EP, but even a stripped out acoustic set with the band sounds pretty incredible. We grabbed the boys during a freezing night, dragged them to Comal Park in East Austin, and filmed the group up against the mural in the alley. Personally, I’m loving the way the shadows tower over the band, just as much as I like the prevalent hook of “Caroline.” It’s the first of four songs on their latest EP, which is hitting stores at the end of February; you can pre-order HERE. Thanks to Axios Studios and Raul Rivera for all their diligence in the whole process of scouting locations, editing and, of course, the great film work. Dudes deserve to be huge.
Have we told you lately how much we love Young Girls (the band, you weirdoes)? Have we reminded you we’re putting out their self-titled EP here in a few weeks? Well, we’ve got the second single from the 4 song EP, which premiered today, and it’s still a joy just to have these four songs be associated with us. This is one of the peppier tunes from the EP, fueled by the group’s angular guitar style, and every bit as catchy as anything they’ve done before. If you’re loving it like we do, you can Preorder the EP HERE.[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Vigilante.mp3]
