11895936_10207422291186088_4494044377145704198_nTomorrow is the ATX Popfest over at Cheer Up Charlies, doors are at 6 PM, bands start at 7. It’s $5 for 10 Bands. All the money goes straight to the bands…so let’s not complain about $5. But, I also want you to have notes on all the bands, and why you should check them all out. It’s a long post, so please read it all. It should convince you why attendance is required.

Come enjoy yourself some pop music. There’s no place else to be Saturday.

7 PM – Tres Oui (Outside) – Tres Oui is the project of Nate from Literature. It’s jangling indiepop. You should check out both his albums with his other band, Arab Spring and Chorus. Also, watch this great video : VIDEO . He’s promised he’ll play this song.
7:30 PM – Polio Club (Inside) – Polio Club is one of my favorite discoveries of the last few years. They’re playing this incredible brand of art-pop that would make all the NYC hipsters of the early 00s jealous. Hints of jangle, loads of cool. Grab their cassette HERE.
8 PM – She Sir (Outside) – She Sir is one of Austin’s greatest pop bands. They’ve perfected shimmering indiepop, and their album Go Guitars quickly sold out on the well-respected Shelflife Records. Remarkable band with remarkable songs.
8:30 PM – Young Girls (Inside) – Young Girls are our favorite Houston band. We love them at ATH so much we put out their last 7″, and we hope to keep working with them. Imagine if Morrissey was covering the songs from La Bamba. Sounds awesome. Buy their 7″ HERE.
9 PM – Letting Up Despite Great Faults (Outside) Two great albums of shoegaze-ing indiepop. A huge following in Japan. They’re like Austin’s answer the Pains of Being Pure at Heart…with less cowbell and more keyboards.
9:30 PM – Templo X (Inside) – This is the dark pop started by Paul of Mirror Travel with a bunch of his friends. We just released their split 7″ with Rose Selavy. They’ve got two shows in town, and this is one of them, so you have to catch them before Paul skips town.
10 PM – MCG (Outside) – Last year a few of the blogger types were talking about Sweet Spirit, as the next ATX band to blow up. Well, you’re hearing it here first, or so I think. MCG is the next big thing in Austin pop music. This will be one of your final chances to catch them in such an intimate setting.
10:30 PM – Summer Salt (Inside) – Summer Salt are going to play you dreamy pop tunes soaked in the sun and sweet harmonies. They’re going to charm you, and hopefully warm your hearts…I hear its supposed to be chilly.
11 PM – Rose Selavy (Outside) – Rose Selavy just released their Split 7″ with us and their friends Templo X. It’s the sunnier side of the split, filled with huge hooks and melody. If you’re not coming, shame on you. But, buy yours HERE.
12 PM – Shivery Shakes (Inside) – What can I say that hasn’t been said about these guys? Their album Three Waves and a Shake was the perfect blend between surf-pop and vintage indie rock, and they’ll bring their near-perfect show to Cheer Ups. You can buy that album HERE.
1 AM – DJ Girlfriend (Inside) – Come dance with us until the end of the night. We promise you’ll have a blast.

I know…a lot of short hand notes. But, the best summary of the event is the play list below and the fact that there is nowhere else you need to be Saturday night. So join us. I promise you’ll have a blast.
