ACL Interview: Waters

watersHere we are peeps, ACL is now a few short days away and I hope everyone is ready and raring to go in the heat.  The ATH crew is certainly amped for the weekend while we struggle to survive the long work week ahead prior to all the fun times.  Today I’m excited to be continuing our ACL coverage with a nice interview from ATH approved band Waters.  Leading man and creator of the group Van Perszaowski offers up the responses.  Hit the jump for more.

ATH: Many folks currently reading this likely haven’t had the chance to check out your new EP since it’s not out yet. What can fans, or new listeners, expect? What’s in store?

Van: The new EP features a song called “Up Up Up” that we recorded while we were working on What’s Real. It was one of my favorites, but I felt like it lived better on its own. We also recorded two special more acoustic versions of “Got To My Head” and “I Feel Everything” that were inspired by the Violent Femmes a little bit. It also features a live recording of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space that we performed on our last tour.

ATH: We were big fans of “What’s Real”. How do you see your band and your sound evolving since then and into the future?

Van: Things are just now starting to come into focus for the next phase of WATERS. I’m very excited to get back into the studio and push things forward. I can’t say much now about the new sound because its all just in my head, but I think fans of What’s Real won’t be disappointed, but it will also feel a lot different. We have to keep evolving 🙂

ATH: Being on such a huge indie label such as Vagrant has to be a great feeling and must surely help get your name out there. What are your thoughts? How does it feel to be on a label with such a rich history?

Waters: The people at Vagrant have been incredible to us. It feels like a family. And to be a part of their legacy as they move forward is such an honor.

ATH: Since you’re on the ACL lineup, have you guys had a chance to check out any of the artists? Anyone you’re excited about seeing or hanging out with?

Waters: There’s so many good bands this year! I’m hoping to see Modest Mouse, Tame Impala, Father John Misty, Kurt Vile, Jose Gonzalez, Strand of Oaks, and Foo Fighters!

ATH: And since you’ve been to Austin before, what do you look forward to doing/seeing when you come into our town?

Van: We will probably do the tourist thing and go to Whole Foods, and then hit up Waterloo like always!

ATH: What’s currently spinning in the tour van?

Van: I’ve been listening to Radio Dept. non-stop.

ATH: Festival or club?

BOTH BABY.

ATH: Give me a band catch phrase. We are keeping a list…..

Van: Come original. We all got stoned the other night and watched old 311 videos and they are hilarious and amazing.

Waters will be performing on Saturday, October 3rd @ 12 noon on the Miller Lite stage.
