SXSW Interview: Lionlimb

lionWe’re a few weeks away from the big event here in Austin, and we’re continuing our coverage with short interviews from the acts coming into town. This time we caught up with Stew from Lionlimb, who ispreparing for the release of Shoo on March 4th. Click below for hisanswers and a few of the dates they’ve planned for SXSW.

ATH:How many times have you playedSXSW/Austin and what’s your favorite/least favorite memory of the city?

Stew: We went in 2014 with Angel, in between playing shows with her Josh and I would leave and go skate at the park. The highlight was probably seeing Paul Rodriguez and the nike team hanging out and skating. He’s one of my skaters and was just casually doing these switch heelflips down an 8 stair. He was also hanging out and talking to a bunch of the younger kids there which was rad.

ATH:How do you go about choosing which songs to play in the limited time given in a standard minuscule sxsw set?

Stew: We usually only play a 25 or so minute set anyway so cutting a song here or there doesnt take too much away from the show

ATH:Best case scenario, how does your sxsw go?

Stew: Finding a place to park everywhere you go is probably your best case scenario. It’s no secret that SXSWisn’t the most fun environment to play music, but we’re bringing a new band set up with keys and saxophone so we’re psyched.

ATH:Name two bands from your home town that we should listen to?

Stew: Stone Jack Jones, who I play saxophone with live sometimes and Dave Cloud, RIP

ATH:Describe your latest release in three words.

Stew: Drums, keys, milkshake

ATH:Favorite way to pass the time on tour?

Stew: I like to skate on tour cause you can explore a neighborhood pretty easily and get in some exercise at the same time. Sitting around in a green room for 5 hours with all the booze in the world you can drink never ends well.

ATH:What’s the worst injury you’ve sustained on tour?

Stew: I tried to hit this gap at a gas station in the desert once and it was way out of my range, I fucked up my ankle pretty good and had a hard time walking the rest of tour. After that Angel was like please don’t skateboard on tour anymore haha

ATH:What’s a festival you’ve yet to play but want to?

Stew: I don’t really know anything about festivals other than the ones we’ve played with Angel. Pickathon was really awesome, would love to do that again at some point. The set up and people are totally different than any that I’ve been to. It’s partially in the woods and people are just hanging out with their kids. Oregon is also really beautiful

ATH: What are your dream festival headliners?

Stew: It gets tricky when you start playing the alive or dead game, but everyone in Talking Heads is still around, would be sick to see that happen. Royal Trux too.
