SXSW Interview: Soft Streak

Our SXSW Interview series is in full swing, and we’ve got to push on, as we have a little less than a month until we reach the festival. Today we’ve got responses from LA duo Soft Streak, who also just happen to be releasing their brand new EP today as well…so congrats on that!

ATH: Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?
SS: Soft Streak – Los Angeles
ATH: Describe your groups sound.
SS: Indie pop/rock
ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases from 2019?
SS: We released a couple singles last year that will be on our upcoming EP out this Friday – Feb 15th. After SXSW, we’ll be releasing a music video that we’re very excited about.
ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. Whats your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?
SS: We’re going to have fun up there and play the best show we can.
ATH: Lets say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?
SS: We’ve definitely been there before. You have to just keep on playing and try to draw people in, no matter what they’re expecting.
ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Of the 1000+ bands coming into town, who would you ideally like to play with. What band friends will be here?
SS: We’d love to play with Madge, Barrie, Plastic Picnic, Omar Apollo, and Two People. We could keep going, there are so many amazing bands to see.Our friends Thumpasaurus and Runnner will be there!
ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?
SS: Lots of Jessica Pratt’s new album, Adrianne Lenker, Caroline Rose, Faye Webster, Kacey Musgraves, Robyn and Sade. We still haven’t gotten over Rosalia’s album, and we’re always listening to Frank Ocean.
ATH: Describe your perfect festival, real or not? Whos headlining? Wheres it take place? Etc.
SS: Honestly, because we live in LA, FYF was pretty perfect. We were sad to see it get cancelled last year and hope it comes back. We’d love to see a Rosalia and Robyn headlined festival.
ATH: Whats on the bands rider? If were bringing you food and booze, what can we bring you?
SS: Fruit! veggies, and definitelyAustin bbq.
ATH: The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at SXSW? Whats the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?
SS: Is “lets give em something to taco bout” the worst or the best name? We’re partial to al pastor tacos, so I think that is what we’d serve. Lots of radish and salsas on the side.
