SXSW Interview: Bad Moves

What I wouldn’t do to have a band like Bad Moves in Austin. Catchy, progressive and a whole lot of fun live; I feel like you shouldn’t leave SXSW without seeing them at least two different times…but that’s just my humble opinion. They’ve graced us with some questionnaire responses, and you can read those below!

ATH: Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

BM: Were Bad Moves from Washington, D.C.

ATH: Describe your groups sound.

BM: Catchy, upbeat power-pop about downbeat, distressful topics.

ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases from 2019?

BM: We put an LP out in September 2018. Nothing planned for 2019, but hopefully well have some new stuff soon!

ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. Whats your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?

BM: We have this unique setup where we mix the sounds of guitar, bass, drums and vocals. I think its really going to pique peoples interest.

ATH: Lets say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?

BM: This sounds awesome. I think wed have a nice time.

ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Of the 1000+ bands coming into town, who would you ideally like to play with. What band friends will be here?

BM: Too many friends to shout them all out! Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires! Bellows! Oceanator! Control Top! Doe!

ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?

BM: I like to put on Phoebe Bridgers various projects until everyone in the van is too depressed and we have to turn it off. This past weekend I think we were all in agreement when we put on Arthur Russells disco records.

ATH: Describe your perfect festival, real or not? Whos headlining? Wheres it take place? Etc.

BM: Itd be a backyard BBQ in DC with us opening for Carly Rae Jepsen and that’s it.

ATH: Whats on the bands rider? If were bringing you food and booze, what can we bring you?

BM: If you WANT TO, you can bring us all of the breakfast tacos and a couple dozen Arlos veggie burgers, please.

ATH: The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at SXSW? Whats the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?

BM: Well call it Talk Oh! and we wont sell tacos, but well stand around in a booth discussing the pop hits of the ’90s in depth, and if you come up to the booth and name a song well work it into the conversation.
