SXSW Interviews: Coyle Girelli

It’s so wild that SXSW is now kicking off in just one week and we can finally get out and see some live tunes again. As things draw ever closer, we have a few more interviews to bring your way which are hopefully highlighting some artists who weren’t already on your radar. Today we move forward with established NYC by way of Leeds artist Coyle Girelli. You can check out his responses and some of his tunes after the jump.

ATH: What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

CG: Coyle Girelli from Leeds, UK but now live in NYC.

ATH: Describe your group’s sound.

CG: Well I was just called Shoegaze Elvis Presley in an review so Ill go with that.

ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2022?

CG: My new album Funland was released Feb 25th.

ATH: Everyone’s been focused on the negative aspects of the last few years? What are a few good things that came about for you as an individual or the band as a whole during the last two pandemic-stricken years?

CG: The pause and the quiet was good for writing an album and re-assessing priorities. Id say it’s probably been the most prolific period of writing in my life.

ATH: Why play SXSW? What’s the draw for the band? What about this festival will bring you to Austin?

CG: I love SXSW. I’ve played it a few times with my band. Also Austin is a fun town and any excuse for good BBQ.

ATH: Let’s say your band has booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd is growing ancy. How would your band deal with such a situation?

CG: Feel like that was the last time I was at SXSW! 😉 We’d go in and enjoy it as always

ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town, but if you could create your own perfect festival, who would you have playing? Would it have a sick name? Where would it take place?

CG: GIRELLI- FEST – it’d be the greatest Fest ever put on. All the bands would be there. Whoever you wanna see they’d be there.

ATH: The band gets to create their own food truck to take on the road. What’s it called, and what are you serving?

CG: Spicy Margs – serving spicy margs, fish tacos and good times.

Thanks again to Coyle for making this time for us. Below is his latest single “Here Comes My Baby”.
