Meet The SXSW Band: Beatenberg

We are in full on SXSW preparation mode at this point ladies and gentlemen! This is officially your last weekend before things really start to go down next week with great tech, education and film things going on around town. Then we go full force into music week right after that. GET READY. Continuing our SXSW interview series today is another one from the lads in Beatenberg. Hit the jump for all the deets.

What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

Beatenberg we’re from Cape Town, South Africa, but we’re currently based in the UK and Berlin.

Describe your group’s sound using only adjectives or superlatives.

Verdant, dusty, gentle, alight

What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2023?

We put out an EP in 2022 and we’re currently working on a new album!

Why play SXSW? What’s the draw for the band? What about this festival will bring you to Austin?

Everyone knows it’s a good idea to play SXSW if you get the chance

There are tons of bands coming into town, but if you could create your own perfect festival, who would you have playing? Would it have a sick name? Where would it take place? Feel free to disregard the rules of time and space.

What interests me is a festival of only groups or artists that have not released any music yet.

What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus

Although we have a huge amount in common musically one of the reasons we are such close friends and continue to work together we also have our individual listening habits and specific interests. This is Matt writing, so in lieu of speaking on behalf of all three of us, here are some things I’d be confident to put on in the van with the guys: J.S Bach, A.C Jobim, Rosala, Stromae, Enya

Obviously you have seen or heard about the issues coming up this year about fair pay for artists at SXSW? Care to offer any insight or comment?

I don’t feel in a position to add anything of any substantial value to the conversation at this moment.

We’ve been seeing more and more artists get into the food and beverage game, whether it’s pierogis from Pavement or Deftones’ beer. If you ever got into the game, what would be your food or beverage and what would it be called?

Maybe some kind of excellent bread

Thanks again for making this time! Be sure to check out SXSW dates for Beatenberg over on their SXSW schedule page.
