Meet The SXSW Band: Wild Child

We are down to the last few days around the ATH offices before we wind down and head out into the madness that is SXSW next week. Prior to that, it seems fitting for one of our last interviews to be from Austin indie legends Wild Child. They’ve been around the scene for what seems like ages now and we were super pumped for them to answer our interview questions. Hit the jump for interview, music and show dates.

What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

Wild Child. Austin, TX

Describe your groups sound using only adjectives or superlatives.

Scrumtrulescent, Dazzling, and Haunting

What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2023?

“Cheap Champagne” was our last digital release on Feb. 28, and is the final track before our full album End of the World drops on March 31.

Why play SXSW? What’s the draw for the band? What about this festival will bring you to Austin?

SX is kind of like a big reunion, we get to catch up with a lot of friends we’ve met along the way. If you do it right too, you’ll stumble across some really cool bands you haven’t heard of before. Its also nice that we get to go home at the end of the day too, having the fest in your backyard has its perks.

There are tons of bands coming into town, but if you could create your own perfect festival, who would you have playing? Would it have a sick name? Where would it take place? Feel free to disregard the rules of time and space.

What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?

Mostly true crime podcasts or David Sedaris audiobooks

Obviously you have seen or heard about the issues coming up this year about fair pay for artists at SXSW? Care to offer any insight or comment?

I think fair pay for any job/labor is a good thing. I think most musicians are sick of the excuse of paying you in exposure. I understand it can be complicated to figure out who foots the bill, but I am glad that the conversation is happening.

We’ve been seeing more and more artists get into the food and beverage game, whether its pierogis from Pavement or Deftones’ beer. If you ever got into the game, what would be your food or beverage and what would it be called?

It would probably be tequila and it would probably be called “Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dunn, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun, dunn nunnn nunnnnnnnnnnn nun, duh na nuuuuuuh nah, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun……”

Thanks again to our ATX friends for making this time. Current show dates:
