Support Your Favorite Artists at Bandcamp 3/20

With all of the event cancellations, we know that the service industry and performers are being hit hard. Bandcamp is running a one day event.

To raise even more awareness around the pandemics impact on musicians everywhere, were waiving our revenue share on sales today (Friday, March 20th, from midnight to midnight Pacific Time), and rallying the Bandcamp community to put much needed money directly into artists pockets. – Ethan Diamond, Co-Founder & CEO

So, just go get records or download some high quality rips for your Zune.

Have a Nice Weekend

So, I am thinking of starting a tech talk portion of the site as we provide you content to jam, but maybe you need a little insight into playback and enjoying your jams. First post, probably going to be about listening anywhere. Simple, cost effective ways to get better sound that will crush your included earbuds? I’m gonna do it.

Anyway, Here is a little jam from NITE. It is super 80’s and you clearly hear a ton of influences from bands they love triggered by a David Lynch binge. It is a pop song with a dark lyrical undertone, so be careful with the jubilant sing along. The new record is called Sleepless and is out 4/17.

Show Pics: Telefon Tel Aviv @ Barracuda (2/7)

Been a hectic week, I won’t get into it. Catching up on some impressions and images from last Friday when Telefon Tel Aviv played Barracuda. It didn’t quite sell out, but the interesting thing was the audience member per musician on stage ratio was almost maxed out. Steve Hauschildt brought the opening soundscape and I have some bonus coverage from a show going on at Cheer Up, finally caught Urban Heat Island Effect.

Song Premiere: Paul Jacks – Shy Boy

We have a fresh new piece of sound for you today from Paul Jacks.

“Shy Boy” is Disco Pop and while there is Beatles-formed-in-the-70s flowing from a lo-fi synth foundation, I get a bit of early OMD from it. Rising and falling into and out of majors an minors, the song has a shimmy born in a brightly colored room, but an underlying longing. Click play and see what you think below.

Paul has a pretty interesting method for releasing jams. Songs are paired, A/B, like a 7″ single. There will be three of these dual releases coming in quick succession launched on Tri-Tone Records on Friday and “Shy Boy” will be backed by the song “Getting Back To You”. A band has been formed, touring later 2020…

A Night At Free Week 2020

Nathan went out Thursday, I went out Saturday. We both got a dose of ATH Records goodness.

For me, catching Big Bill for the last time in their current form was of paramount importance. Sure there were several other great lineups, but drummer Alan Lauer is leaving our fine city. His wife is, too, and she makes amazing cookies so they brought cookies and they were delicious. The jams flowed. It ended up being a packed, raucous set with local celebs, plenty of shenanigans like jumping jacks, praying to the Hotel IndiGod and a pit during “What do you want on your salad?”…

Along for the ride was Exercise, Borzoi, Blood and Son of Stan. I also said hi to some folks next door at Mohawk. Click through for the big gallery…

Have a Nice Weekend

Looking for something a little different for your weekend? There is plenty happening. If you want to have some solid foodtruck snacks while listening to DJs play the beats, check out Piknik Electronik. A friend went to the party up in Montreal, said it was fantastically run and made for a pleasant weekend that ratchets up in BPM as the sun goes down. Tickets are available at the door, the whole thing happens at Auditorium Shores.

Soccer, erm football, fan? I’ll be at Scholtz’s for the NBCSN Premier League Mornings Live Fan Fest in my prized Tottenham third kit and Spurs scarf. #COYS

Finally, a good friend to ATH has some sweet jams available to add to your playlists. Orthy is back with the Austin Disco Synth Pop sounds you love. “Your Spell” is the first song back in five years Ian and team. The full-length Fable Living is due in January. Hang with this jam as it evolves and gets layered up.

ACL 2019: Sunday In Pictures

The humidity returned. Record high temperatures were recorded. There was nowhere to hide. It was hot. I guess we have to move the fest back another month?

Day three was pretty chill for me. Plenty of fun shooting to do, though. Going into the fest, Sunday was all about Idles. Instead, I experienced several gems hiding around that powerhouse performance. From mellow to nostalgic to charming, Sunday’s photos include Otis The Destroyer, Thomas Csorba, Faye Webster, Idles, Banks, Third Eye Blind, Kacey Musgraves and a shot of the biggest crowd ever for side stage performance. No, I did not shoot Lizzo as after I checked out TEB and Kacey, the crowd waiting for Lizzo was so huge that making it through before the pit closed was not looking possible without a jet pack. It was crazy.
