Fresh Big Bill Tunes

If you were living in Austin, you might (or should) have heard this brand new track from Big Bill on 101x Homegrown. But, in case you missed it, or you don’t live in Austin, then you should give a listen to some of our town’s best punks mixing things up with their latest hit. For the first 1.45 minutes, the band flesh out their sound by slowing things out, flexing the track with some saxophone. But, soon the tune erupts unmercifully in a rapturous closing that you’d only get from the Bills. Just another stop on the BB train while we wait for the group to release what we expect is a stellar new LP.

More Music from Honeyrude

This new track from Honeyrude is filled with cascading guitar lines blasting off into the ether. It sets the tone perfectly for the entry of Jess Ledbetter’s vocals, delicately drifting into her performance with angelic tones that cut right through the sharpness of the guitar work. There’s something nostalgic about the group’s sound, seemingly plucked from early 90s alternative rock, then modernized to make listeners like me swoon. Look for the Color Blue on August 18th via Shifting Sounds.

New Music from The Just Joans

  1. I knew this single was coming our way, but unfortunately I was on vacation when it dropped! So I rushed back today to drop this new tune from Glaswegian group The Just Joans; they’re offering the perfect brand of glistening indiepop, moving back and forth between upbeat moments and more sultry swing to entice listeners. Such gems are hard to find nowadays, but rumor of a full-length in the works should keep us all looking forward to the next steps from this act. Grab this new single from Fika Recordings now!

New One From The War On Drugs

On the off chance you have been living under a rock and somehow missed that The War On Drugs have a new album coming up, I wanted to share with you another single fromA Deeper Understanding. “Pain,” is both classic War On Drugs and a glimpse at another side of the band that I expect we’ll see even more of on this new album. The track is highly emotive– the americana piano and strumming acoustic guitar gives this nostalgic, wistful sort of feeling of missing something. Of course, the band builds to their signature cathartic swell with buzzing guitars. It’s truly a treat.

A Deeper Understanding will be out quite soon on August 25 viaAtlantic Records.

Snappy Track From Deerhoof

Deerhoof will be releasing a new album on September 8 and today they’ve shared a new single featuring Stereolab’sLtitia Sadier. The song, “Come Down Here and Say That” has got a definite bite to its crunchy astro-pop, but just the right amount of punch to get your fist in the air while you jam. The song alternates between different sound spaces, moving abruptly and throwing a wrench in your classic song structure. It’s a great track, so take a listen below.

Mountain Moves will be out September 8 onJoyful Noise Recordings.

Cinema Red and Blue Single Comes from Fortuna Pop

While Fortuna Pop has called it a day, they remain ultra classy by releasing everything they promised to their Singles Club…such as this Cinema Red and Blue gem. I’ve been a fan of Comet Gain, so having David Feck writing new ditties never seems like a bad idea to anyone…not to mention the involvement of other great acts like Pale Lights and Crystal Stilts. Not sure if this will be the last release we ever get to enjoy from Fortuna Pop, but if so, its great to see it going out with one last incredible pop dosage.

She Sir Album Release Show is Tonight

She Sir, one of our longtime favorites, who we always give our undying support, released their excellent new LP, Rival Island, last week…and they return to the stage in Austin this week at the Mohawk. They’re one of the premiere dreampop/indiepop acts in Austin, if that’s your thing…not to mention this new record taking it to a whole other level. Plus, if you hadn’t heard, we’re putting out an EP by the incredible Blushing, who will be opening the show…so get there early and sample what’s coming your way! Plus, Wildfires will keep it real right in the middle of the night.

Doors are at 9 and its All Ages, so you’re out of excuses.

New Rocker From Dead Stars

Dead Stars have just released a new straightforward rock and roll tune for you to jam to on this Thursday. “Happy Or Sad” relies on the growling electric guitars to carry you through to the bombastic chorus. The lyrics may be telling you about melancholic feelings of apathy, but the song itself is anything but boring. Take a listen below and then go pre-order the band’s new album,Perfect Patterns, which will be out September 1.

Alex Cameron Shares New Duet With Angel Olsen

Sometimes when bands go on tour together, all that bonding and time together produces something magical. An example of such a magical thing is the video below for “Stranger’s Kiss” on which resident moody boy Alex Cameron and powerhouse Angel Olsen combine forces for the greater good. The video is star-studded as well and mocks Cameron’s personae of cool-guy a bit. As far as the song goes, I’m reminded of 80s rock with the arcing chorus and Cameron and Olsen’s voices meld together quite well. Check it out below.

Alex Cameron has a new album called Forced Witnesscoming out on September 8 via Secretly Canadian.

You Should Check Out Big Baby

Right around this time last year I shared some news about indie pop masters Young Scum from Richmond, VA. Since then, I’ve heard very little from the band, and assumed maybe they had called it quits. As it turns out, not to be so, as the guys reformed under the new name Big Baby. Their new project already has an albums worth of material and they sent me over an exclusive preview via recently released single “Not That”. Once again we are treated to some of the most delightful and memorable indie pop currently being released. If you dig it, new album Sour Patch is currently available on their bandcamp page.
