Quieted Folk from Angelo De Augustine

spiralzIt’s been years, and I hate to even bring it up, but where’s the next Elliot Smith in this world? If I’m going to throw a name into the hat, it might just be Angelo de Augustine.  I’m not saying that they sound exactly alike, as there’s no fun in that, but there are similarities in the recordings and the intimacy.  There’s a soft touch that makes its way to your heart, and few artists can pull that off.  I know my hopes are high here, but there’s a special place in my heart reserved for music of this sort, so I’m eager to see what the entirety of his Spirals of Silence LP sounds like.  Take a quiet spin today, and pick up the album on November 18th.

Fun Rocker from Native America

grownupThere’s really no typifying the sound of this new Native America single.  There’s definitely a more raucous element than your typical fare, but that breakdown in the end puts the band’s feet in traditional indie rock land. Personally, I’m preferring the grittier elements to the tune, but it also demonstrates how the band’s sound can branch out in varying directions.  That should make the release of their new album, Grown Up Wrong, quite a satisfying listen.  It’ll be available on November 18th via Inflated Records; you’ll enjoy it or else!

Hello There Step-Panther

stepI ran across Step-Panther a few weeks back, and dammit if BV didn’t beat me to posting about the group.  On the first few seconds the latest single from the Aussie act has a tendency to dwell in the realm of modern emo (I know that will scare some folks), but I implore you to listen on, as they near the perfect jangle pop that our friends in Literature have created as of late.  It’s infectious and begging to be played over and over again on your speakers.  Listen to this track all day and see if you can grab the group’s Strange But Nice LP while you’re at it.

Brand New Album from Proto Idiot

protoEver since I first heard Proto Idiot via his Trouble In Mind 7″ I’ve been hooked on the sound he’s been creating.  He’s changed things up here and there, but there’s still a very elemental bit of punk rock that comes through your speakers when you press play.  There’s a tinge of garage rock, but things are definitely of the more refined sort; I might even hear a bit of J Reatard in the vocals on this new album, Also Known As.  If you’re looking for something to stream today at work, give yourself a few spins with this release; you’ll be enjoying the next 20 something minutes of your life.

Song Premiere: Another Green World

agwWe’ve posted and shared our fascination with Alec West’s new solo project Another Green World a few times in the past.  The style is sonically right up our alley with its dream like sounds and beautifully composed pop tendencies.  Today we’re happy to be premiering a new song from the project called “Snow”.  Once again we are finding many things to like here and I’m sure you guys will too.

New album, Memorial, is out October 21st on 80s Ladies Records.

Something Different ft. London O’ Connor

londonIt’s always been hard for me to really indulge in my friend’s hip-hop interests. There’s just never been something that really sucked me in to that world.  Sure, I can appreciate the more poetic styles, but today I’ve been hooked on something a bit different, coming from London O’Connor.  This tune from the producer has him rapping over various parts, but there’s this huge swell of pop construction that operates as the chorus; that’s precisely the piece that sold me on this track.  It’s almost like late LCD Soundsytem with your little brother rapping in and out. He also created a video game for you to play with the song; you can check that out HERE.

Rock This New Tune from Bully

bullyYou like Cloud Nothings? You like lady singers? Then you’re going to have to get on it real quick and jam to this tune from Bully.  It’s the project of Alicai Bognanno, and she’s done much of the work on her eponymous EP by herself.  The guitars have that same angular ringing, pushed forth by the pacing of the drum work; there’s even quick moves in guitar discord that come in and out of varying parts on the track.  Just turn the stereo up a little bit louder, sit back and let this slick track knock you back. Look for her EP on October 21st.

Enjoy Some Shark Tape

10403029_535252963246111_3037351177714550483_nI’m reading the title to this post and already giggling a little to myself… Shark Tape…giggle.  Despite their name that makes me chuckle a bit, Philadelphia based Shark Tape is a promising up and coming young rock n roll band.  Their tuneage is something like indie rock with a more upbeat and poppy vibe to it.  Check out new single “Bronco” below and let us know what you think.

Shark Tape will be self-releasing Marathon on November 8th.
