Free EP from Guards

We all love free tunes, so you can’t really turn away from this great new band, Guards.  Their sound is a bit of lo-fi, but they definitely do their part to include a bit of strong melody in those tracks.  The self-titled EP from the band has seven tracks, and each one has a bit of a different spin than the preceding number, so you don’t get bogged down in monotony.  Definitely give this group a try.

More New Music From Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band

We recently got ourselves a promo copy of Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band’s upcoming record Where the Messengers Meet and we like what we hear.  Back in May we dropped “Leaving Trails” your way and now we bring you another preview track called “Hurrah”.  Both songs should get you excited for what is sure to be another solid effort from the group.  Be sure to pick up the new album on August 3rd via Dead Oceans.

New Tunes from The Superimposers

It’s funny how you can search for the perfect record to listen to, and then out of nowhere, you come across something new, something wonderful.  London’s The Superimposers won me over today as I grabbed a few tracks from their newest album Sunshine Pops.   This is just classic pop in the best way, the kind that makes you see double rainbows on the horizon.  One listen, and you’ll surely feel the same.

New Music From Matthew Dear

Over the last few years, I’ve grown to be a moderate fan of Matthew Dear and the beats he creates as a DJ/Producer/musician.  The music I’m hearing from his new album Black City (out August 17th) may turn me into an even bigger fan.  Below you’ll find why I’m hot on this guy’s trail with new song “Soil to Seed” off the upcoming record.  You can also pick up another track on his website called “I can’t Feel” for the price of an email address.

New Tunes from Screaming Females

We first caught a glimpse of the power behind Screaming Females when they opened up for Ted Leo.  They wowed us then, and they are here to wow you as well.  The band has a new album titled Castle Talk coming out on September 14th, and its going to be killer.  One listen to single “I Don’t Mind It” and you can see why they’ve been winning fans all over with their classic alternative rock sounds.  Get ready for this band to win your heart.

New Tunes from The Biters

Who likes power pop? I do. I do.  Seriously, when I heard The Biters, I just went straight to iTunes and grabbed their EP.  I mean, its part Exploding Hearts, part Gentleman Jesse, and all parts just awesome.  There’s nothing arty or dancy, or even intricate for that matter, it’s just straight ahead rock n’ roll, like the good old days.  It fuels you with energy, and it’ll make your smile large. You gid?

New Tunes from The Boat People

What can I say about Australian pop?  Man, it sucks me in every single time, but I won’t complain.  My newest find is The Boat People who just released their album Dear Darkly overseas. It’s got this atmospheric quality to the staple indie pop sound, and on the single “Soporific” the chorus is completely juxtaposed to the regular versus.  It’s a splendid style of songwriting.  Give this a try.

New Music From Versus

Veteran indie-pop band Versus were long thought dead after their much publicized breakup around 2001.  But then, wait, the group got back together for a few shows in 2008, re-worked their lineup and decided it was once again time to make music.  So now in 2010, Versus are planning to release their first LP in ten years entitled On the Ones and Threes via Merge on August 3rd. I don’t think anyone really knows what to expect from the new joint, but I do know I like the track below.  Welcome back kids.

New Tunes from Villa Cola

For some reason, dance music never really goes away, and that’s not a bad thing, entirely.  I’m pretty picky about my dance tracks, and I’ve found a new one I’ve been enjoying all day long.  Villa Cola have just released their self-titled Villa Cola EP, and it’s got some great subdued dance grooves going on throughout its entirety.  You’re sure to find enjoyment in every song, so head out and find this small gem of a dance album.
