We’re happy to tell you about some new friends we’ve made from Denver, Colorado: Snake Rattle Rattle Snake. They’ve just released their self-titled EP, and they’ve already got us wanting more. We’re offering up one of these tracks to you, which showcases the brooding vocals of Hayley Helmericks. For some reason, this recalls a really dark version of Pretty Girls Make Graves if they were more post-industrial than post-punk, if that makes sense to anyone but me. The group is making their way to Austin for SXSW, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on their arrival, along with other various details.

We are going to make our obligatory Daytrotter post this week with a set by the incredible singer/songwriter A.A. Bondy. The up and coming artist plays 4 songs from his most recent release of 2009 When the Devil’s Loose. This track “I Can See the Pines Are Dancing” is a highlight of the set just as it was a highlight for us last year.

If you follow labels closely, they always lead you to new gems. Such was the case when I hit up Labrador Records, the label that releases lots of killer Swedish tunes. This time around they led me to Sambassadeur, another up-and-comer from the Swedish scene. You’ll find this tune on their new album European, which comes out at the end of Ferbruary.

We were introduced to the greatness known as Efterklang during SXSW last year, and we’ve been following the band ever since. Previously only available in video form as of a few days ago, this new song “Modern Drift” now has an MP3 available for downloading. The track will appear on the band’s upcoming album Magic Chairs due out Feb. 22nd on 4AD. I’m honestly enjoying this track probably more than anything else that has come out so far this year. Let’s hope the rest of the album delivers as well.

I can’t help but sort of fall in love with Nick Curran, in a musical sort of way. The guy mixes classic punk sounds with the romance of Motown, and since I’m an avid fan of both, this is the perfect thing for me. Nick’s an Austinite, and he has a new record coming out on February 16 titled Reform School Girl. Unfortunately, he’s been sidelined with tongue cancer, so if you’re in Austin, or just a fan of good tunes, you should keep him in your thoughts. Get well soon Nick…and here’s his title track.
