I have a list of winners and so many photos. Orthy sounded great, buoyed by Ian and Jeramy’s win for best DJs as Learning Secrets. Shivery Shakes ripped after their win for “Sidewalk Talk”. Jess was charming and haunting as ever, congrats. A Giant Dog stole the show with their set, while Mirror Travel may have given some voters buyer’s remorse. Magna Carda is hip-hop in Austin; go see them.
Just a few days away from the Austin Music Blogger Awards, and we wanted to make sure that you got a chance to meet some of the great talent that’s part of the event. Today we’ve got a short interview with Aisha Burns, who many of you may recognize as one the members of Balmorhea. The Austin Music Blogger Awards is less than a week away, so we’ve got a few more interviews to help you get to know your local artists. This time I caught up with my friend Stephen Svacina from Sweet Talk; his band is nominated for Best EP with their Flash of Light EP (12XU). Stephen’s a good dude, and in one of Austin’s great pop-punk bands (just don’t tell him that or he’ll threaten you with pyrotechnic violence). It’s been an incredible year for Mirror Travel; their Mexico record for Modern Outsider was our Number One record in our Top 15 Austin Albums, and it looks like they’re continuing their meteoric rise. They’ve been nominated for several Austin Music Blogger Awards (find all nominees HERE), so we caught up with the band to give a little bit of insight into the life of the band. We’re trying to put together as much of a push as we can to make this year’s Austin Music Bloggers Awards pretty special. We wanted to sit down with a few of the acts to get their insight on Austin, the Awards show, etc. We caught up with William of Shivery Shakes who shared a few thoughts on such things. We’re really proud to be part of the Austin Music Blogger Awards; it’s going to be a huge success celebrating the Austin music community. While it may not be perfect, we’re doing our best to make it an event that everyone enjoys. So with that in mind, we caught up via email with Jess Williamson, as she tours in support of her recent effort, Native State; she’s nominated for Best Solo Artist. She had a great 2013, and looks like 2014 is shaping up to be another solid year for her. She’ll also be playing at the awards show, so be sure to pick up your tickets HERE.
