SXSW 2014 Interview: Anne

anneWe’ve been covering lots of Anne tracks lately, and the music that’s coming out of this artist is pretty kick ass.  It’s geared for all you folks ready to throw down on the dance floor, albeit with a slightly different vibe. He’s likely to keep his set pretty heavy with tracks from his recent album, Pulling Chain.  Here’s what he had to say before making his way into town, and personally, I think these are some of the best answers we’ve gotten.

Anne Makes a Hit For You Dance-A-Teria Types

anneMan, I can’t stop using that reference, I’m sorry.  But, that being said, it was the first thing that came to mind when I listened to the brand new single from Anne. The song is instantly ready for a club hit, banging hard when you turn it up appropriately loud.  It opens with an actual ballad beginning, dusted over with some electronic touches; it then proceeds to make your toes tap joyously.  I can just picture people being confused in a club when it first comes on, then they realize how much they want to dance all of a sudden; perfect. The new record from Anne, Pulling Chain, will be out on March 4th via Run for Cover Records.

Big Synth Hits by Anne

AnneAnne, a project fronted by Portlandier David Lindell, will be releasing a new album March 4th called Pulling Chain. You have two choices to get your fill of what is in store on that album. I am going to embed the track you should stream. You will have a Read More to check out a video.

“Terms”, the embed, has a big chunky set of waves to set the bass line and then come a pulled vocal and a few breaks. “Blonde Men”, the video, has more elegance. Both a delightfully dark and carry a post-punk sensibility belying the transition towards synth from more analog means. Run For Cover Records has been putting out some pretty sweet jams lately. Keep on it…

Newish Jam from Anne

Anne_photo1.1Brian’s usually our electronic know-it-all, but I think I’m beating him to the punch here, though we’re both a few weeks late on this one.  The latest single from Anne is pretty rad; it’s got this driving synthetic beat that unites with these dark post-punk vocals.  Beneath the main beat, there’s another beat that seemingly builds the tension, which propels the song forward.  Anne‘s new EP, Jerusalem, is out today via Run For Cover Records, and those of you who’ve got a hankering for darkness with your electro-pop sensibilities will find the perfect way to spend your afternoon by clicking on the track below.
