ATH Records Welcomes Feverbones

Let’s just throw this out there…you have no idea how excited we are over at the ATH Records team to be working with Feverbones. Abram Shook and his old project the Great Nostalgic were one of our favorite acts when we first started this site 10 years ago. That alone makes it worth it, but you also get Chris Cox and Matthew Shepherd who’ve got an accomplished resume on their own (Adam Torres, Monk Parker, Dana Falconberry, Astrobleme, etc.). We’ll be releasing their new LP in early 2018…but why tell you now? Well, you can sample the band’s sound by listening to their 2014 EP below…plus, the trio hits the stage on Saturday night at the Mohawk, opening for White Denim. You can grab early tickets HERE.

Stream Feverbones below (also available on Spotify, iTunes):

Show Pics: Caroline Says and Growl @ ABGB

This show was a while back. I brought along the camera just for fun, even through it was a date night/friend dinner, as I hadn’t shot at ABGB. I figure I might as well share pics even though I am still learning a new camera system. On tap, besides the beer, was Caroline Says and ATH Records‘ own Growl. Both bands are chock full of familiar friendly faces. So, delicious pizza, great beer, wife, friends that joined for dinner, Team ATH Records, two solid sets in a unique venue, lovely evening had.

Austin Record Label Flea Market Recap

We love you Austin.

Everyone is already looking forward to doing it again. More on that later. I took photos, we did our shimmy thing, records were sold, merch was sold, group shots, industry discussions, ball-busting, cider sampled, dogs joined in, kids were indoctrinated into collecting vinyl.

Modern Outsider, Super Secret Records, Western Vinyl, Holodeck Records, Launch Cycle, Chicken Ranch Records, Keeled Scales, Saint Marie Records, Nine Mile Records and, as Nate said, our own little ATH Records all had the booths up and running. We had the musical stylings of The Sour Bridges and A. Sinclair.

Please enjoy my little photo essay on the Austin Record Label Flea Market. Click through to see what you missed or reminisce…

Growl Release Wont You at Cheer Up Charlies Tomorrow

It’s that time, the time I hope you’ve been waiting for. We’re finally releasing Growl’s debut LP, Won’t You, today! It’s a great bit of guitar pop, filled with huge hooks and harmonies galore. If you’re looking to pick it up outside of Austin, you can find the album HERE. But, if you happen to be in Austin, and happen to be free Saturday night…come pick it up in person at Cheer Up Charlies! They’ll be joined by heavy-hitters Popper Burns, The Halfways and The Two Lips. We’ll have copies for you to grab, and good tunes for you to love! Just in case you wanted to sample the goods, stream the LP below!

Hear Nike’s Slack Capital 2 Contribution

Slack Capital 2 is a compilation of music by 27 of Austin’s most wonderful bands. All proceeds from the comp go to SafePlace, which provides support for victims of domestic and sexual violence. We’re unveiling one song per day, leading up to the comp’s release on April 14.

Today’s song: Nike — “UR Lying Now”

Oh god, I love Nike. You can tell by their name that pretentiousness is not their bag. And when you hear their music, that’s what you get — short, propulsive, gross, funny songs. Striking a similar tongue-in-cheek vibe as Ian McKinney’s “CRIMEWAVE” and the Pataphysics song “Carrasco,” two other Slack Capital 2 songs we’ve told you about, “UR Lying Now” is a faux-upset rant at a person who is literally lying at this very moment. Plenty of songs tell a generic “you” that they have lied, but how many have the gall to call it out while it’s happening? This three-piece is relatively new to the Austin scene, but if this song is any indication, they’ll be making a bunch of die hard fans in no time. People still want to have fun when they go to a show, and Nike, with their caffeinated, quirky takes on modern life, never forget that.

Pre-order the release over at ATH Records.

Croy and the Boys are on Slack Capital 2

For the tremendous new Slack Capital 2 compilation, with songs by The Zoltars, Kay Odyssey, Thor & Friends and many more, we’re unveiling a new song every day until the April 14 release party. 100% of proceeds go to SafePlace, so go pre-order it right now!

Today we’re spotlighting a song by Croy and the Boys called “Sleeping Til 2.” Saturated with their characteristic dry humor and a nothing-to-do Sunday morning vibe, this song perfectly encapsulates the modern malaise of a simple man trying to figure stuff out. “I tried some new drugs/ and they were fun/ But six-packs, and my backyard’s/ the budget I’m on,” sings bandleader Corey Baums, and the key is his earnestness, which makes it funny, rather than corny. Croy and the Boys may be in on the joke, but the characters in their songs aren’t, and that makes all the difference.

Did You Hear That New Growl

Earlier this week we were glad to see that Gold Flake Paint ran a short bit on Growl, one of the next LPs we’ll be releasing on ATH Records. It’s the blissed out guitar pop I’ve come to love, like a less formulaic Teenage Fanclub…now with more hooks than ever! They’ve earned raves from locals for some time, and we hope the rest of the folks start to take notice with the release of Won’t You on April 7th! If you’re interested, you can grab the LP directly from us at the Bandcamp or wait for the band to come to a city near you this Spring!

New Video from Tres Oui

Last week we were super excited to release Singles Going Nowhere, the debut EP from Austin’s Tres Oui (featuring members of Rose Selavy and Literature). Immediately after the band hit the road (Tour Dates), and now they want to share this great video with you from the standout tune, “Party Planner.” The video, created by Herb Shellenberger, features a whole lot of kissing, and musically, a whole lot of great energy. You’ll also hear the voice of Lomelda‘s Hannah giving an extra bit of pop to the tune. We did a limited release with our friends at Square of Opposition, so buy it HERE.

Show Pics: Tres Oui Release Party

Another week, another record released by Austin Town Hall Records.

The most recent excuse to get together with friends is the EP from Tres Oui. Singles Going Nowhere is five tracks perfectly crafted pop chock full of ringing guitar and driving backlines. It is a compact example of the concise EP as opposed to five goods songs with filler content. Oh, sure, they have new songs already, so be ready for that when you see them in your neighborhood. Did I mention this was a tour kickoff, too?

Hit the road, nerds.
