ATX Spotlight: Town Lake

Town Lake is an Austin band who got together back in 2017 after all members spent some time in well known Austin bands like The Calm Blue Sea, Go Nova, and Summer Fires. After some time spent playing live shows and recording tunes, the band released their promising new EP Demonstrations last April. For a taste of what the band has to offer, take a second and check out the bands new single “Homesick” streaming below. The band, at its core, has a blues inspired, southern sound with a lead singer in Gus Ochoa who sometimes sounds like Brandon Flowers when he could still sing. Zing! In the end, the band make a great rock n roll sound which is a welcome addition to what tends to be a non rockin’ scene in Austin.

If you dig the new track, the band’s new EP Demonstrations is streaming on all platforms.

Austin Spotlight: Small Circles

10516600_577338272388271_5118767778977189528_nHere’s a fun little diddy from Austin based band Small Circles.  The track is called “Maybe in the Long Run” and features a catchy vocal delivery with a pop/rock vibe sound.  Though I knew nothing about the band prior to today, I’m already digging this more than a lot of the popular music currently coming out of Austin.  Keep it up boys.

Small Circles have an EP coming out very soon.  Stay tuned here for updates.

Austin Spotlight: Bo Bud Greene

1995While digging through some of my emails today I came across an interesting track from up and coming Austin band Bo Bud Greene.  Now these guys are really new to the scene, and with this being my first exposure to their music, I immediately like what I’m hearing.  The recording quality of this new single “Numbers Count” is a little rough at times, but once we get past that, you’ll find a really incredible sort of noisy pop number.  Their style is almost a bit of a throwback to earlier days of rock music when things were a bit simpler, and that’s a welcome breath of fresh air in the Austin music scene.

Pick up new 7″ Hi How Are You? right now from the band’s website.

Austin Spotlight: Even More from Ghetto Ghouls

ggAlready with two song posts on our site, I think most are aware that local boys Ghetto Ghouls have our stamp of approval.  I’ve got even more great tuneage from these guys today in the form of this track called “Simple C”.  We are yet again treated here to some gritty, rough rock n roll sounds reminiscent of some of our greatest indie rock forefathers.  Get on the bandwagon now people.

Once again you should be buying the new Ghetto Ghouls self-titled album on April 8th via Monofonus Press.

Austin Spotlight: Technicolor Hearts

a3436299103_10After maybe a year or two of what seemed like a lull in the Austin music scene, I’m incredibly excited to see the wealth of new and talented bands that have been popping up recently.  This city is the live music capital for a reason so we need you starving artists to keep it that way.  Today I’m sharing with you new find Technicolor Hearts.  This new project comes your way from former Agent Ribbons member Naomi Cherie and her pal Joseph Salazar. They together have created these great driving, almost trance like sort of beats with swirling guitar riffs sucking us in throughout their tunes.  This track below, “Pretty”, is a perfect example of that.  You’ll certainly be bobbing your head.

Check out the band’s new EP Under the Big Blue Umbrella Sky over on bandcamp.

More New Music From Good Field

3thumb

Way back in January, I posted a sweet new single from local Austin boys Good Field called “These Dreams”.  I haven’t really heard much from the band until they just sent out their brand new single “Tell Me Ida” found below.  It appears on a new self-titled album from the band which is due out on February 12th.  This is a great song from one of Austin’s most promising new band.  Get with the program!
