Ancient River Now an ATX Band

ariverMy homie Lankford has posted about psychedelic rock band Ancient River a few times in the past and I’ve been a fan of the band for awhile as well. With that said, you can imagine our combined excitement when we just got word that the band is planning a big move to the best city in the world (Austin duh). So now an ATX band, the duo will be looking to flesh out their sound with a 3rd member while they wrap up two new albums worth of material. Very excite!

Though I don’t have new music to share today, you should check out their last album,Keeper of the Dawn, in full below. New music is coming soon.

ATX Song Premiere: Dream Attics

10012187_700504140062304_4749605522334607763_o (1)Prior to about 3 days ago I knew almost nothing about Austin band Dream Attics and I should apologize to the band and their fans right now.  With that out of the way, I’d like to introduce and hype up the band as much as possible because their music is certainly worthy of your time.  Today you can get a sample of the sounds created with this new single from the band called “Still”.  In a short few words, this is a truly enjoyable bit of dream pop music that is equal parts shiny and mesmerizing.  I’d say we all need to start paying attention to Dream Attics.  They also have some more music over on their bandcamp page.

Austin Spotlight: Hundred Visions

1904201_852240114800323_1497954134438975919_nPunk rock with a pop twist is on a major rise here in Austin and Hundred Visions is a band leading the charge.  Today we’re happy to share with you this new track from the group called “You’re Gonna Cut Me Loose”.  My prior description fits here as the band bring a loud and proud punk rock themed tune completed by some pop tendencies and chant along lyrics.  Keep it up boys.

Pick up new album, Spite, due out October 28th via Pau Wau Records.

Check out their first single from the record, “Wrapped”, elsewhere on our site.

Austin Spotlight: Basketball Shorts

10449943_776955792327118_3148740025931230137_nLocal label Fleeting Youth has been blowing our minds lately with all of the stellar bands they’ve been picking up on their roster.  Today the label has a new track for us from already somewhat well known Austin band Basketball Shorts.  Our new jam is called “Candy Boys” and you can expect a short, fast, in your face sort of pop-punk tune.  It’s a promising track for one of Austin’s fastest up and comers at the moment.

The aforementioned Fleeting Youth Records will be releasing a split cassette featuring more tracks from Basketball Shorts and several others from Canadian based Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party.  Pre-order that one now and expect a ship date of July 22nd.

Austin Spotlight: Big Bill

0001548526_20As previously mentioned, we’ve been striving hard to better represent this great city we live in with spotlights on some of our favorite up and coming musicians. Today I’m bringing you all a band called Big Bill that could be the newest and freshest bands we’ve over posted about in the Austin scene. These guys create would I would call quirky and weird punk rock music similar to maybe Terry Malts or No Bunny if those guys were even more weird. I find it irresistible. Below you can check out new song “Free Dumb” which appears on the bands latest and only release A Hard Days Bill (EP). If you like what you hear, you can download that entire EP for free at a name your own price deal.

New Experimental Pop Music From Royal Forest

royalforest_press_2012_meWe’ve long been supporters of local boys Royal Forest and the interesting pop music they’ve been creating over the last several years both as Loxsly and under their current moniker.  Though the band have been upping their frequency of shows around town recently, we haven’t heard much new music since the October release of beautiful new track “Ambulance”.  Today welcome news has come our way that the band not only have a new tune to share with us, but also have recently completed a new album of material entitled Spillway.  Prior to that July 9th release date on King Electric Record Co, the band are offering up this new song “Everyone Who Knows You” as a sneak peak of what’s to come.  Similar to “Ambulance”, this new jam has a very Transference era Spoon vibe to it  with heavily effected vocals and guitars throughout.  If the entire new album can deliver with these types of pop influences and unique songwriting, we might be in for something special.
