We here at Austin Town Hall just created a fancy Youtube account featuring some live video from The Mohawk show on Thursday night. We’ve got a few rockin’ videos from Whitman (featuring a sweet cover of “Radio Radio”), Great Nostalgic, and Frantic Clam. Head over now and check back frequently as we’re planning on adding content as often as we can. Tyler over at Two Groove also has some nice photos and a write up from the show on Thursday. So in case you didn’t hear, Austin Town Hall put on a little SXSW showcase last weekend. We had 5 bands handpicked based on how much we like them and how much we wanted to hear them play live together. All in all, the show turned off without a hitch and even ended on time for everyone to get their shit together and still get a beer afterward or make it to Auditorium Shores. Follow the jump for a brief review of our bands and see some fancy photos.
We took loads of photos during SXSW and wanted to share just a few of the better ones with you. We had some camera trouble during the week so we didn’t get everywhere we wanted to be, but we hope you like the shots we made out with. Our goal was to give you an idea of what SXSW is like with pictures of bands, crowds and people. Pictures of our showcase will be up for your enjoyment tomorrow. Just a friendly reminder that ATH will be pretty MIA as far as music news goes for the next couple of days. All of our writers are out at SXSW getting things ready for a full report come Monday. We here at ATH started getting a little jealous of everyone having fun with this day party thing during SXSW week, so we thought it was time to join in the fun. The shindig we’ve put together will be going down at Victory Grill on March 21st from 3pm-8pm and is completely free. Our lineup should spark your interest and make you want to leave all those other free day parties behind. You won’t even have to leave the kids at home since all ages are welcome at the show! I’d recommend getting to the venue early as space is limited. If you’ve got a little free time, be sure to Like our event on Do512 and check out their sweet SXSW coverage while you’re there. We here at Austin Town Hall try to get a show together once in a blue moon, and now felt like the right time to get things going again. This time around we’ve brought Opposite Day, Whitman, and Frantic Clam to Hole in the Wall this Friday night for a sure to be killer set. The show will only run you $2, so put down that Friday the 13th box set and get your live music on. If we don’t see you there, we’ll do to you what Jason did to Kevin Bacon…

Let the season of giving begin! One of the hottest bands in the UK right now, The Ting Tings, will be embarking on a rare US tour which includes a stop at the Parish in Austin. The show isn’t until Sunday the 19th of October, but we’ve got a couple of tickets to give away to one lucky winner. On top of the free tickets, our winner will also receieve a signed drum head from the band. That’s not all.. just to keep things lively around here, we’ll award a runner-up with a copy of the band’s latest CD We Started Nothing. To enter, drop a comment that tells us why you’re excited about the Ting Tings leaving their island home and stopping off in Austin. The Dolphin music website has a list of the top 100 music oriented blogs in the US & A. You may see some fan favorites like stereogum, gorilla vs. bear and even local favorite Sonic Itch! Unfortunately for the world, Austin Town Hall didn’t make the list… Maybe next year. Wired as #1? Really!?!
Each week, we here at Austin Town Hall will be featuring one of the many great artists playing the late September Xemumba Latin Music Festival. This week, we cast the spotlight on Academicos da Opera. Academicos, a return act from last years Xemumba festival, are a group of about two or three dozen performers who will bring the pulse of Brazil, Samba, to Xemumba. The group will be playing that Brazilian Samba both nights at the Festival. Be sure to read our original post about Xemumba and buy your tickets. You can also check out an excerpt of that famous Samba music below which should get you jacked up for the show.
