Together with our friends at Fleeting Youth Records, we’re excited to release Hot and Ready, the new Basketball Shorts LP. With the NBA season over, it’s time to look forward to football in the fall…and these Austin punkers have the perfect track for you, especially you Texas folks: “Romo to Dez.” While the song references our favorite scoring duo, the song’s actually a love song…here’s what singer Ben Shorts has to say:
“I am a lifelong Cowboys fan. I mean I grew up in Dallas in the 90s. It was only time before I let it out in song. This song though, is more about how I felt when I use to see this one person I was dating. I would get so excited when I thought about them, and the only thing I could relate to that excitement was when Romo hits Dez for a touchdown pass. In my head I wrapped up the anticipation, the tension, and the release, all in one phrase. When I think about you, I Romo to Dez.”
Grab the cleary vinyl (with splatters) HERE or HERE, or just pick it up on July 8th when it’s released.

We’ve been keeping ourselves pretty busy this year with our various releases on ATH Records, so we aim to keep that up, at least for the time being. We’ve teamed up with our good friends over at Fleeting Youth Records to release a super special limited edition LP from Austin’s Basketball Shorts; Hot and Ready will come on clear vinyl with smoky blue swirls…a run of 350 split across the three participating parties. The band have long been a favorite of the Austin scene, blasting pop punk jams in your face whenever they take the stage. This is their debut LP, and we couldn’t be more excited for you to hear it. Pre-Order is up; it’ll ship on or before July 12th.
I’m getting overwhelmed with opportunities for great shows this week, and Thursday night’s no different. Still amazes me that people are still harping on “Austin music is dying” when there’s a million shows to hit up on any given night…but alas. Pay close attention as a lot of the gigs below are cover acts in honor of Halloween…like the show at Mohawk with our boys Rose Selavy; it also has prizes!
Here’s where you can find yourself this evening:
Goblin a Go-Go w/ Rose Selavy and Loafer @ Mohawk – 8 PM
Basketball Shorts, New China, Oozer, Mean Jolene @ Trailer Space – 7 PM (FREE)
Sweet Spirit, Crushed Out, Major Major Major @ Hotel Vegas – 10 PM
Otis the Destroyer, MCG, Ghostbunny, The Bravo @ Sidewinder – 9 PM
Peacers, Elisa Ambrogio, Quin Galavis, Shawn McMillen, Jared Leibowich @ Cheer Up Charlies – 8 PM

Local label Fleeting Youth has been blowing our minds lately with all of the stellar bands they’ve been picking up on their roster. Today the label has a new track for us from already somewhat well known Austin band Basketball Shorts. Our new jam is called “Candy Boys” and you can expect a short, fast, in your face sort of pop-punk tune. It’s a promising track for one of Austin’s fastest up and comers at the moment.
The aforementioned Fleeting Youth Records will be releasing a split cassette featuring more tracks from Basketball Shorts and several others from Canadian based Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party. Pre-order that one now and expect a ship date of July 22nd.

We’ve got a nice little community starting to reemerge in Austin, and one of our city’s photographers has a a rad little band that’s popping up on our radar. The band is called Bounce House, and they’ll be releasing their first EP titled Hottest Day of the Year. It’s filled with five rad tunes of punk rock that give you that fine blend between of bounce (as in the title) and grit; I’m really happy for these dudes. You’ll also have other Austin heavy-hitters like Bobby Jealousy and Basketball Shorts filling out the evening at Beerland, so expect to get your money’s worth…and pick up the EP while you’re at it!
When I first heard about Austin band Big Bill back in July, I immediately was taken by their catchy version of poppy, garage rock style of music. My love affair with the band was confirmed shortly thereafter when I saw the band live and was extremely impressed with their energy and tightness. Today the band just sent over this new track called “Juice U” that we deemed worthy of sharing with you guys. It’s pretty darn great.
This tune will be available on October 29th via a a split 7″ with fellow Austin band Basketball Shorts. You can pre-order that bad boy now on Fleeting Youth Records.

We were recently turned on to local band Big Bill so we deem it necessary to keep you informed on their shows and happenings around town. Friday night the band have put together one hell of a lineup at Spider House Ballroom featuring more fun power, pop punk than you could possibly imagine. The loaded lineup of course features our new boys Big Bill along with Mom Jeans, The Gone Begones, Basketball Shorts, and Penny Woolf. We hear that the joint will be rocking with drink specials, hot chicks, and plenty of rock n roll to ease you into a fun filled weekend. See ya there.
