Birdskulls have been on my radar for some time, having appeared previously in one of the many singles from Art Is Hard. Today the label, and band, announced that they’ll be releasing a brand new self-titled 12″. Musically, the song’s a straight-ahead rocker, almost reminiscent of early 00s pop-punk, though the vocals during the verses seem to carry a bit more indifference. It’s just one of those great jams that packs a bunch of substance and joy into a pummeling little burst of fun; I expect that their new EP will carry much of the same; it drops on March 2nd.
You’re going to immediately recognize the vibe in this brand new Birdskulls song; it’s everything you love from bands like Dinosaur Jr, Weezer and Teenage Fanclub…and its filled with the hooks too! I love the vibe here, both youthful and nostalgic…perfect for air musicianship as you bounce around your bedroom. If this is something you dig, I suggest you keeping your eyes on the folks over at Art Is Hard Records, who will be releasing the band’s new EP later this Autumn.

A few weeks ago I brought you the lead jam from Birdskulls AA Single, which is being released by our friends over at Art is Hard Records, so I’m happy to return with another track off the single. The sound of the guitars has a definite familiarity, but on this run through, I’m finding the underlying growl of the vocals more intoxicating with each listen. While the pace might not be as quick as previous track, “Mispresume,” you can see the group pushing themselves to reinvigorate a classic alterna-jam sound, fueled by grit and their undying passion.

Seems like its been awhile since we checked in on Art Is Hard‘s Biweekly Pizza Club, but I’m glad I stopped by today to see what they’ve been up to. While there’s only a few more releases coming from their Pizza Club, the latest from Birdskulls is quite a gem. It’s got an angst-y guitar sound a la Dinosaur Jr, but I think the vocal delivery has a softer edge to it, reminding me of The Wedding Present. I’m not going to lie to you; I could listen to tracks like this all day long. High energy, good lyrics, strong vibes. Love it.[audio:https://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Birdskulls-Ghost-World.mp3]
