New Music From Black Joe Lewis

blackjoelewisI can already see the look on your face when you press play on this new Black Joe Lewis track.  You’re confused, reading the artist name again, and scratching your head as to how this could be the same Black Joe we all know and love.  I’m right there with you, but I also said to myself, yeah this is sort of badass.  Everyone is entitled to change their sound and I see this as being a very positive thing for the group.  You can only get so far in this town continuing to play bluesy/gospel style music.  I’m with you Joe.  That bass line is just downright disgusting.

New album Electric Slave is due out August 13th on Vagrant Records.  Per the album title, I’d say be ready for some loud, in your face rock music.

Mr. Fest In San Marcos 5/2

MEESTER(PURPLE)So if your Saturday plans are looking bleak, take a little trip down I-35 to San Marcos for the KTSW sponsored Mr. Fest this weekend.  The event is going to be a big one and we won’t even attempt to list all the goings on in this tiny little space so we’ll hit the key points.  For starters, this event will start at 11am, run all day long and end around 1am.  All sorts of local bands will be playing at the festival including a headlining night show by one of our favorites Black Joe Lewis.  Even better news, our friends Whitman & Built by Snow will be playing hour long sets right before Black Joe  on the Bar 141 stage.  All of downtown is included with 5 venues setting up stages for live music.  Not just a music event, food, drink and games will also be part of the fun.  Best of all, this thing is totally free!  For more information, head to the KTSW website, see show info on Do512 or check out that fancy flier.  This should be one festival you won’t want to miss.

SXSW Top 10 Live Acts

sxsw_liveacts_coverIs anyone else just a little bit sad today as we wrap up another amazing SXSW Festival in Austin? While still nursing our hangovers and mending our bruises, we would like to share with you the best live acts that we caught this past week. You may have heard of most of these bands or they may be completely new to you, but regardless, these bands brought the noise at SXSW. We tried to be fair and pick the acts that either lived up to a certain hype or just rocked our faces to the floor.  Follow the jump for our top 10 live acts of SXSW.
