Enjoy New Music by The Sweets

thesweetsIf there’s a harder working band out there, then I’d like to meet them.  The Sweets have just put out their 8th EP/Single of the last year (Some Pulp being my favorite), and these three new songs are definitely worth your time today.  At first, it seems like the band might jump off into sunny-pop, but they hold themselves back, letting the song unfold with a soothing vocal effect that floats in the distance.  There’s a few verses, and those are treated equally as gently.  If you like what you hear, then you can head HERE to grab the new EP from Bleeding Gold Records, who continue to amaze us with their consistency.

Another New Jam from Songs for Walter

coverI appreciate the work of Songs for Walter, not to mention that he’s dedicated to releasing a free track every month on his way to finishing up his full-length debut.  I like the gentle quality of the guitar work, accompanied by added instrumentation.  And that voice. You can’t tell me it’s not intoxicating to a certain degree. This project is picking up steam all over the UK, so remember, you heard it hear first!

Dark Wave from So Sexual

2756197706-1I’m really enjoying this new track from So Sexual, a Liverpool act who seem to have more in common with the sound of rival city, Manchester.  You can’t take away the nod to Joy Division, or perhaps even a darker version of the Killers.  I think the vocals have a higher tonal quality than they might lead on, so you can see that it’s more than just an average knock-off.  The band just released a single with Bleeding Gold Records, and you can grab that for cheap if you’re interested in the sounds. I dig it, if that counts.

Brighten Your Day with Songs for Walter

coverCloudy days always seem to go one or two directions, musically speaking.  I can delve into my sad bastard catalogue, or venture about for some good old fashioned pop gems.  I’m going to do both, but I’m going to share this new Songs for Walter track in hopes that it will pick you up today. Main man Laurie Hulme has a great voice to accompany his pop balladry, and he’s agreed to release a song a month until his next proper full length is ready.  I like the light instrumentation here, with the crisp string sound really doing its job to win me over.  Pay attention to his label, Bleeding Gold, as they’re likely to keep you in the know about future single and that full-length right around the corner.

New Music from The Sweets

1159209151-1The way the world works today, musically speaking, you’ve got to stay on top of things.  Labels and bands are capable of releasing all sorts of material in various formats, making it hard to keep up.  So you’ve got to check in on your favorites, as I was doing with Bleeding Gold Records.  They’ve just offered up a free download of this new EP by The Sweets, which is filled with calm harmonies recorded with an atmospheric DIY sensibility.  Okay, so I hate to use the world “chill,” but it’s really fitting for this track, which is the opener on the groups Montequilla EP.  Go grab it HERE, and check out some other BG releases while you’re at it.

Indie Pop Friday with Just Handshakes

841230_10151385453640805_840043184_oWhat a great way to wrap up a really good week in music! Just Handshakes are readying their debut full-length, Say It, but in the meantime, they’re offering up a nice glimpse via their new single from Bleeding Gold Records.  There’s definitely some nostalgic leanings in this track, but that aside, it’s just a glistening pop tune with a wonderful female vocal eager to make the world swoon.  If you can make it all the way through this track without letting a smile creep upon your face, then I do believe there is something wrong with you sir! Enjoy your weekend folks.

New Psych Rock from Gayze

I’m really digging the music that Gayze is putting forth.  The Idaho group has just put out their Black Soul EP, which comes in a splattered 7″ format from Bleeding Gold Records.  Currently, you can get the EP for free in the digital format HERE, and it’s got a sound I think many people will enjoy.  At first, there’s a sunny side of pop on the EP, but as they move further along, they’ve created this low-key psych rock, fusing the genre with some lo-fi garage aesthetics.  I hope people catch wind of this group, as they’re producing some really great songs.

Gentle Pop from Songs for Walter

Monday’s are always a great day to enjoy some mellow pop tunes as your body recovers from a long weekend.  I came across this tune from Songs of Walter off the group’s recent 7″, and it’s really something to behold.  It begins with a strummed guitar and a light stomp before Laurie Hulme carefully enters the fray with his soft voice.  Eventually there’s a slight pick up in the song via a shaker, and then Hulme lets his voice soars elegantly in the mix; you can grab it now from Bleeding Gold Records. It’s a thoughtful tune for a thoughtful return to the working week.  Hope you all have a good one.
