Field School Share Fresh Single

If ever a song felt like it was written specifically for me at this moment in time, then this has to be the one. On the flipside of a jangly pop jam, Charles Bert’s new project, Field School now brings us a more contemplative piece of pop, one that highlights the careful craft Bert brings to the fold of his new LP. Lyrically, the song seems to revel in that feeling that things are slowly returning to normal; it’s perhaps an apt descriptor for the many of us, coming, or beginning to peak our heads out again after several years of weariness. I love the way each little verse begins to take on a little more instrumentation, building and building all the way to the end; it feels in an a way like a nod to Magnetic Fields, and I don’t mind that one bit. When Summer Comes drops on November 18th via Bobo Integral.

Field School Announces When Summer Comes

Well, it seems only fitting that I fill these pages with bands I adore, even if they happen to be 1 degree from a previous post on the same day. You guessed it folks, Field School is the new project of former Math and Physics Club member Charles Bert. But, unlike the pristine pop substance of his friends, Charles brings in the steady ringing guitar work that gets mixed in with those angular jangles. Interestingly, though their various approaches may differ, they both seem to view the world with this spiritual optimism, and maybe that’s just the nature of the joy their song’s create. Still, there’s something about this tune (and the Model Shop track) that just makes you feel like there’s bright moments left to be uncovered in this world. When Summer Comes will be out on Bobo Integral on November 18th.

The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness Share In the Right

If you’re lining up your anticipated releases scheduled for the end of the year, then you should surely have The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness penciled in your “must listen” category. Today we get the third single from the band’s forthcoming LP, and it’s a straight up pop rock gem. The band have always operated with a velvety vocal approach, and that’s balanced out by the fuzzy riffs banging through your speakers, reminiscent of Teenage Fanclub. It feels jittery, teetering on the edge of an panic attack, then opens right up into their melodic pop rock brand, smoothing the wrinkles and winning us over. The Third Wave Of is out on September 9th via Bobo Integral.

The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness Share Turning Red

Some pop music is written for the moment, but then other pop songwriters go about their business writing timeless pop tunes, just like the track below from The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness. I don’t know whether it’s the perfect guitar jangle notes ringing out with that percussive stomp behind or whether it belongs to the comforting curl of the warm vocals, but I don’t think there’s a single person who’d turn this track off. It’s living somewhere in that perfect place between our love for bands like Teenage Fanclub and Nada Surf, so if that’s your bag, then you’re going to want to grab Third Wave Of… from Bobo Integral/Tear Jerk.

The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness Announce New LP

What’s that? New music from the Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness? Yeah, I’m in. The group dropped a surprise single back in April, but I wasn’t ready for them to hit me with another single and another album, but I welcome it here! This song begins with a bit heavier guitar vibe than what they’ve brought out in early albums; it feels like a heavier brand of power-pop, ready for some anthemic stadium performances. But, as always, they turn the jangling guitars on, bridging the power pop into some super brilliant melodic chorus work, clearly knocking it out of the park with their charming songwriting. It’s like if Tom Petty was a really big indiepop nerd, and its wonderful. Their new record is titled The Third Wave Of…and its out in September via Bobo Integral.

Crystal Eyes Share Like a Movie

When we first shared news of the forthcoming Crystal Eyes LP, we were really excited by the group’s blend of pop styles, pulsing with a more frantic energy. But, on their new single, they allow the song to sort of fester and swell, like a slow-burn; this makes tons of sonic space for the band to fill in the spaces, be that the distorted guitar in the distance or the wash of atmosphere that crashes briefly into the chorus. All of this culminates in a huge burst at near the song’s end, sprinkling pop confetti down from the rafters all over the listener as if you’ve just won the game of your life. The band drop the Sweetness Restored on April 22nd via Bobo Integral.

One Last Fortunato Durutti Marinetti Single

Have you picked up your copy of Fortunato Durutti Marinetti‘s Memory’s Fool LP yet? I ordered mine, and hopefully will get it early, as I have a sneaking suspicion that the record’s going to be cherished by those paying close attention. As far as this latest single goes, it seems more stripped back at first, radiating like a solemn Lou Reed. Once you get to that one-minute mark, the song begins to spring to life, building various textures into the song, layering some horns and various pieces of percussive notes together. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll spend a little of your money on grabbing this from Bobo Integral today on Bandcamp…with the LP dropping worldwide next Friday.

Crystal Eyes Drop Don’t Turn Around Video

This Crystal Eyes tune’s been floating around for a few days, but it’s delightful feel totally has me circling back to listen again and again. The drum work is really the driving force of the tune, with the string elements pulsing and gyrating, though often muted in the mix. All of that allows for Erin Jenkins to offer these vocals that feel almost rushed, like she’s hurrying to run these lyrics through your ears. I love the 2 minute mark jet off into a more chaotic pop feel, tugging the song into this territory that feels nostalgic and timeless all at once. The band release The Sweetness Restored on April 22nd via Bobo Integral.

Fortunato Durutti Marinetti Shares All Roads Single

Honestly, I don’t usually have the patience these days for songs stretching over 4 minutes, but there’s something really special going on with Fortunato Durutti Marinetti and his forthcoming LP, Memory’s Fool. Something in this track made me think of Jackson Browne’s “These Days,” which flooded my brain with nostalgia. That’s mostly in the guitar work, as Marinetti’s distinctive vocal delivery feels more akin to something we might have gotten from Devandra Banhart or the like. Something in his song’s just seems so patient, and that sort of transpires as you’re listening, pulling you away from your world and into Fortunato’s; it’s a wonderful place to escape if I do say so myself. Memory’s Fool is out March 18th via Bobo Integral.

Crystal Eyes Share Wishes Video

You’ve always go to keep an eye upon what’s coming through the Bobo Integral pipeline, and their latest singing, Crystal Eyes, are sure to captivate many a pop fan. The Montreal group namecheck the Cure and the Beatles, but when I listened the first few times through, it feels like a DJ Skrew version of Blondie’s “Dreaming” getting spun at the dance club. The vocals are a little more coy, toying with a little bend in the ending of lyrical syllables while the rhythm section hammers away there. That’s when you start to hear the angular Cure guitar sound dangling in there. Definitely a hit; the band will release The Sweetness Restored on April 22nd via Bobo Integral.
