Excited for the New Brass Bed LP

brassIf you’ve been kicking it with NPR, then the odds are you might have heard this new track from Brass Bed, but in case you haven’t, we’ll just give it a little space here since I loved their underrated first LP. The opening of this tune sound sort of muddy, but the pop tendencies of the group build shortly after the one-minute marker, letting you glimpse what I’ve come to love about the band. Their new effort In the Yellow Leaf will be released on April 15th via Modern Outsider, so lets not sleep on the band this go round, okay?

New Track from Brass Bed

brassbedIf you ask people who spend their time scouring the net for great tunes, you’re likely to hear their opinion that The Secret Will Keep You is one of those untouched gems that was overlooked by far too many people. So with that, expectations for Brass Bed are really high as we head into the cycle for their new album. This new single definitely pushes things in the right direction; it’s got an incredible beat and these swirling guitars working right behind the vocal. Just picture an upbeat song by the Walkmen, filled with an airy vocal, and you’ll know just why this succeeds. The single comes out next week, but look for a full length in early 2016 via Modern Outsider.

Pop Rock Stomper from Brass Bed

brasstaxI dig Brass Bed.  They’ve been hard at work, touring and recording, and we’re finally getting to hear a bit of their new LP with a few sampling tracks that are being laid down for a 7″.  There’s a rolling stomp to the drum work, keeping a steady pace to this song, but what I love are the harmonies.  To me, and lord knows I’m always right, there’s a hint of the great Nada Surf in the vocals; they’re soft, surrounded by a perfect swell of noise.  If this song means anything, there’s a solid foundation that will make the next LP pretty spectacular.  Look for the new 7″ on November 18th.

Hook-Laden Pop from Brass Bed

285329_10152533432835705_861324706_nThose in need of catchy pop tunes better pay attention to the latest single from Brass Bed.  The band is gearing up to release their third LP, The Secret Will Keep You, next week, and it’s definitely blending some of my favorite sounds.  I dig the usage of the organ/wurlitzer/whathaveyou with the bright tonal quality of the vocals, while the rest of the group provides a strong rhythm section that adds an extra little punch to this ditty.  Sometimes, the most successful tunes are the ones that focus on simplicity and consistency; you’re sure to find that here, and on the album.
