Bratty Tune from EULA

eulaRemember when the YYYs were a force to be reckoned with, musically speaking? Listening to this new single from Brooklyn’s EULA I get the same impression, though I think it could hit even harder had the band wanted to go that way.  The song’s propelled by a shouted vocal that operates over a discordant guitar chord ringing atop a bubbling little bass line.  Percussion here is rather low in the mix, but it creates this thrilling sense of anxiety that pulls the listener along.  It’s the A-side to the band’s new 7″ that sees a release from Bloodmoss Records on July 15th.

Pleased to Meet You: Landlady

artworks-000070713585-wtoc0s-t500x500Collective groups are always interesting.  Sometimes you get to witness the powerful combination of songwriters, and other times, you get to watch things fall apart.  Landlady, the project of Adam Schatz of Man Man and his friends is picking up steam out of Brooklyn.  They’ve released a new single as they finish up work on their new album, which is slated for a summer release on Hometapes. This tune begins with a little piano tinkering before working in some jittery vocals that are reminiscent of Schatz’s main project.  The group heads on into Austin for SXSW, and while they’re name might not be out there just yet, it’s definitely one you should keep on your radar…even if you’re not going to be here for the festival.

New Pop Music From No Kill

0002165123_20

Just when I think I’ve covered every band in the Brooklyn area, another one comes along to remind us that the city is a enormous hot bed of growing indie bands.  Today I’m sharing with you this new group No Kill.  It’s a sort of dreamy pop sound with nicely distorted guitars popping in from time to time.  When listening to their tunes, I’m reminded of girl led pop bands like Headlights (RIP).  Hope you enjoy.

The band recently dropped a new EP entitled New Dirt that can be downloaded for free on the group’s bandcamp page.

SXSW 2014 Interview: Clouder

SXSW comes earlier and earlier every year doesn’t it?  Prepared or not, the festival is right around the corner and of course we’re going to get you ready as best we can.  Interviews are a great way to get a varying perspective from band and I’m going to kick mine off today with one featuring Brooklyn upstart Clouder.  I haven’t know about these guys too long, but what I’m hearing, I’m digging big time.  Based on these interview responses, I think I might just like the guys even more.  Check it out after the jump. New Single From Clouder

artworks-000069765130-xxl1a4-t500x500Brand new upstart Austin label Fleeting Youth Records has been sending me some great tunes recently which should solidify them as a label to watch in 2014.  This new track called “Lost in Reverie” by Brooklyn based Clouder is yet another tune from this growing collective.  I dig the dark pop sound accompanied by the creepy Jim Morrison like vocals.  Stay tuned for more.

Sophomore album, Sister Raygun, is due out on March 4th.

New Music From The Tower of Light

TTOL_photo1I’ve been looking for some way to describe this new tune “Honey Resist” from Brooklyn based The Tower of Light, but I am coming up majorly short.  Some may place it in the shoe gaze genre, and I’d be cool with that I guess?  I’m hearing something more than that hear with the mesmerizing atmospheric feel to the song.  And damn, those vocals put me in a trance.

Check out the new self-titled album on February 4th via Felte.

New Tune From Passenger Peru

Passenger Peru is a banda1224397052_10 that I’m sure many of you know very little about, as I am just now finding out about them today.  The group are a duo hailing from Brooklyn who have been hard at work recording their music over the last year or so anxiously waiting to drop the tunes out to the public.  Today we’re offering up one of the band’s latest tunes called “Heavy Drugs”.  It’s an interesting pop tune that gives us a great chorus that could be labeled as something you might hear from older Rogue Wave or fellow dinosaur loving band Dinosaur Bones.  Definitely give it a few listens and let us know what ya think.

Pre-order the band’s new album now via Fleeting Youth Records (it’s due out January 28th).

New Jam From Flagland

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHere’s an interesting new track I’m digging called “Comfortable Life” coming your way from Brooklyn based trio Flagland.  The track is fairly average for about 1:56, until things really open up into a truly special moment.  I won’t tell you anything else about it so you can be just as pleasantly surprised as I was near the end.  Don’t ruin the ending!  Seriously, stick with the song the whole way through and enjoy the badassness.

New album, Love Hard, is due out February 25th on Father/Daughter Records.

New Jam from Little Racer

RACER_01.141746It’s always funny to me how some bands break in the UK before ever making waves in the US, so I definitely feel like I need to open my eyes beyond my own shores…such is this global world.  One of the bands that have really made a name for themselves abroad is Little Racer of NY; they even put out a 7″ overseas in 2011.  But, things look to change with catchy tracks such as the one below.  There’s a dark quality from the sound of the guitars and the brooding bass line, but you’ll still hear an accessible pop sensibility lurking beneath.  Enjoy this track and wait for the group’s upcoming EP.
