ATX Spotlight: Will Courtney Preps New Album

willcourtneyLong ago, Austin act Brothers and Sisters made huge waves in town…and while they’re sorely missed, songwriter Will Courtney hasn’t stopped writing music. He’s got a brand new record coming out this week, and I thought you should put it up on your radar, just in case you needed some great new music to enjoy. The new record is titled Planning Escapes, and while the record isn’t officially out until July 15th, you can catch his release show at Hotel Vegas this Friday with Wes Coleman and JD Clark. Listening to this single, I forgot how much I missed his voice. Those of you looking for a classic indie rock sound with a passionate singer behind it need look no further than the song below.

Country-fied Gem from Will Courtney

will-courtney_cover-thumbIf you’ve been around the Austin music scene for awhile, then you surely heard about Brothers and Sisters, which featured Will Courtney.  The group decided to call it quits, forcing Will to go out and discover his own sound.  Based on this single, it’s going to be a folk-influenced record from a rambling man; this song features steady strumming from an acoustic guitar with careful instrumentation being used for accompaniment.  I’m really looking forward to how the rest of the record comes together; the title is A Century Behind, and it will be in your local record stores on April 22nd.

Brothers And Sisters @ Mohawk (1/17)

Choices for weekend shows are looking pretty slim, but one bright spot on the map is a Brothers & Sisters show at Mohawk on Saturday.  The local Austin band has been getting a lot of well deserved praise this year with the release of their solid debut LP Fortunately.  Having seen these guys a few times now, we can tell you that this will be a show you don’t want to miss out on.  Show starts at 9 with tickets being sold only at the door.

Dengue Fever @ Mohawk – Tonight!!!

A lot has been made in the past few years about the ridiculous onslaught of sweet tunes that are coming from Dengue Fever.  Earlier this year, they rocked everyone over at Club Deville.  Tonight, they are the sepcial guest at the Fun Fun Fun Fest pre-party over at the Mohawk.  We thought you should know!

They’ll be playing with a bunch of great Austin acts like Brothers and Sisters and The Lovely Sparrows.

Funx3 Fest Pre-Shows & After Parties

Instead of creating seperate posts about the good things going down with Fun Fest this weekend, we’re just gonna give it all to ya at once.  For a full list of after parties and oficial pre-festival shows, have a look at the fancy flier attached to this post.  If you want some help making decisions, we’d recommend parking yourself at Mohawk Friday-Sunday night.  The venue features Brothers & Sisters on Friday night, a White Denim CD release party Saturday night, and Girl in a Coma to close things out Sunday night.  To make it even more enticing, every show is either free or half price with your Fun Fest wrist band.

Brothers and Sisters @ Waterloo 7/16

Tomorrow afternoon at Waterloo Records we are fortunate to welcome local folk favorites, Brothers and Sisters, to the stage.  Of course, it’s free! They just had a CD release party for their newest album, The Fortunately LP, and odds are that you might be able to get your hands on it prior to the actual release date of August 19th; if not, then at least you can get your hands on one of those free beers that always comes with a Waterloo Instore performance. So stop by and support local business and local music.
